Re: Section of the AKW closed due to water bombing

From the info given it is, probably, the drum to cannich section, as there is much mention of the RSPB Corrimony reserve.

Re: Boot Recommendations for people with wide feet?

Salewa - but the heal is narrower than some
Meindl I find wide enough but genterally too low volume

Keen - for a more summer 'boot'

Re: Insoles

Superfeet dont suit me - arch support is not high enough
but will suit alot

Sole is the 'off the shelf' for me, after 20-30mins in a 'low' oven & then wearing the boots while they cool

Like boots, insloe are another ftry to find one that suits or a custom moulded one ( at a cost)

Re: Ben Wyvis conditions?

Not a perfect indicator but have a look at https://www.sais.gov.uk/ where the Northern Cairngorms will give an idea

Looking at the range I'd probably want both axe & crampons (and a lot of slogging stamina)!

Re: Road Closure Cairngorm

Even if the request is not accepted, bare in mind that the council does not clear the road, staff @CML do!

So if both Sugarbowl and Ski Area Carpark are accessable, the road may not be passable in bad weather (or after snow)!

Re: Ideal pack size and weight for weekend backpack?

I dont carry a tent (prefering a bivi bag) and use an OMM Classic 25L sack plus 4L chest addon for upto 3 or 4 days.
Stove is a meths "shampoo lid" & mug for rehydrated meals, a 4 season down sleeping bag + mat & the only spare clothes are a few changes of socks...
