Re: Recent snowconditions Knoydart

Thanks @ Caberfeidh and Summers-lad. To be clear: I didn't ask "I won't need it, will I", I asked what the snowconditions are. I have seen full winterconditions in April both on Skye and in the Fisherfields (seperate years) so I know April can still be a full on winter thing. I do not tak...

Thanks. I skipped a walkreport last year, but will likely write one about this trip.

Cheers, all I needed to know.

Recent snowconditions Knoydart

Same question as last year: I'm coming over from mainland Europe next week (sunday 21st) and I'm hesitant to bring axe and crampons past border control (having had problems over an Opinel knife in the past).
Do actual snowconditions in Knoydart demand for axe and crampons?
Many thanks in advance.

Re: Salewa Litetrek pro 2.2 tent

On their website claim it's been windtunnel tested up to 90 km/u. Seems sturdy to me, but can't speak from experience.

Re: snugpak sleepingmat Antarctica

Hi there MRG1,

That's a five year old question I forgot I ever asked
I am sorry though, I never got an answer, nor did I ever get or look for an answer elsewhere. Neither did I ever buy and try this mat. So I am sorry, I can't help you there.

Re: Calling all side sleepers!!

Since you refer to yourself as a heavier walker: the big agnes pad is 9 cm thick, with 11 cm sidebaffles, making it quite difficult for you to be touching the ground. I'm not sure, but I think this is thicker than the other mentioned pads.

Re: Calling all side sleepers!!

I've never slept as good as since I sleep on a Big Agnes Rapide SL. Not heavy, though also not the lightest. I don't care, I sleep like a baby.

Re: Snow conditions Knoydart Munros

Ah, many thanks Iain. And quite the weather you had. I hope you had a great day!
Any upcoming snow will be fresh and I guess quickly gone as well. In any case it won't pose problems that crampons and axes can solve. I'll be travelling light.

Re: Snow conditions Knoydart Munros

I did Buidhe Bheinn today (technically in Knoydart but I did it from Glen Shiel) and there were only a few tiny patches of melted snow. I could see a bit more snow on Ben Aden and Sgurr a’ Choire Bheithe but mostly high up (and I obviously could only see their north-facing slopes). With forecast as...

Re: Snow conditions Knoydart Munros

You will likely be fine without them, especially if your planned route doesn't include the highest tops: most of the snow in Iain's photo was a fresh fall last week which was thawing rapidly by yesterday. Long range forecast is cold for next week but a big dump of fresh snow looks unlikely, but the...

Re: Snow conditions Knoydart Munros

Thanks Iain, but oooops, that's quite a bit more snow than expected and certainly cause for preparedness. Maybe I'll repost my question shortly before departure in a little weeks time after coming scorching week. I couldn't find anything on a UK customs website about ice-axes and crampons, but then ...

Snow conditions Knoydart Munros

Since customs gave me quite a bit of trouble over a simple Opinel nr8 in my luggage, I am quite hesitant to take an ice-axe and crampons with me from mainland Europe. Will they be needed for my trek across Knoydart starting 25th April according to recent snowconditions? Many thanks in advance for yo...

Re: Waterproofs?

I'd be interested tp know how you qualify this? Personally I can't see how the best wicking base/mid layer in the world is any use under a bin bag but I'm happy to be enlightened. I am afraid I was misunderstood, but that might have been due to my provocative statement. I didn't try to defend a bin...
