Re: Broken zip on sleeping bag

Before doing anything like that, first try the "plier-pinch-goodtogo" solution. Take two pliers and gently pinch both "wings" of the "runner" of the zip. Easiest fix possible, but good enough for 90 out of 100 "broken" zippers. Pinch or sew just anything over ...

Re: October?

I've had to reschedule my March2020, October2020 and March2020 visit. By now I've kind of accepted it might be a long wait still. Hoping for September/October again, but with 10day quarantaines (?) both ways, I'll already have used up more days than I have holidays. March2020, Oct.2020 and March 20...

Re: The 'easy' way up Torr Achilty...

It's been a while since I last posted on WH, but I wanted Jackie to know I sympathise. I've had corona myself in March/April and till today I've been struggeling with aches and paines and short breath every know and then. Ready to jump at anyone's throat who calles it a flu, denies it, blames 5G and...

Re: 1000 mile socks

Thanks all 3 for replying. @MartyJG: I seem to remember 1000 mile doesn't deliver abroad, but I might be wrong. I'll give it a good second check. And the Dutch website seems a bit odd: it doesn't show products, it only promotes itself for personalising sportswear with prints and what have you. @Drif...

1000 mile socks

Although it seems like decades ago, it has only been a year + something I was in Scotland. In the little supermarket in Kinlochewe I bought some 1000 mile socks 3 seasons, after Alterknacker advised them here in the online world. I fell in love immediately and thought I'd never buy any other socks e...

Re: Replacing shock cord

Hi Billbo, This will do just fine: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/replacement-elastic-for-tent-hoops-6-metres/_/R-p-3737?mc=1163607 Make sure that when you pulled it through the poles, pull it under tension up to 20% of the size of the pole. This way the tension will be good and it will still allow y...

Re: Damp boots!

In my opinion the best performing gaiters are the ones that come pre-shaped at the bottom, like Front Point Gaiters by Black Diamond.

Re: Wicking socks...

I find the Decathlon socks pretty good even in warm weather, though the shorter ones are often found in the running section rather than the walking one. Something like these, though not sure if they're the exact ones; https://www.decathlon.co.uk/nh500-mid-x-2-pairs-grey-id_8358985.html I think you'...

Well, in fact it was you who pointed 1000 miles socks out to me. And I've been happy ever since. Grand merci for that.

Re: Blisters!

-Lift up the heel with an insole. Never ever use Gel insoles, as they're unstable. -Let the insole be high and sturdy around the heel (f.e. Sidas 3D Outdoor or Quechua Hike 900) -Treat feet with Lanolin or Gehwol -Wear 1000 mile socks -Next time focus on lighter and less rigid boots (as you don't se...

Re: Camping stove question

Daylight testing I think? Hold something darkish behind it, you'll see a flame. As long as it's hot, it's burning. It won't blow up. General word of advice: the mimer duo is a great stove, but don't tighten it too strongly to the canister. The black piece of alu may bend slightly. Nothing dangerous,...

Re: Complex question about everythig

1. What is the best place to buy equipment, (ebay, Go Outdors, etc.)? Although I'm not UK but mainland, I'd say there is no best place. There is best advice, and that can be got in any shop, depending on who's in front of you. 4. Sleeping bag: What is suggested minimal usage temperature shell I look...

Re: Torn tent repair

What material to use depends also on whether your tent has a siliconised flysheet or not. F.e, Mc Nett sells seamgrip and seamseal. The first for non sil. tents, the second for sil. tents. Myself I was pretty impressed with sticking quality of https://www.decathlon.co.uk/adhesive-tape-multi-purpose-...
