Re: Hi everyone

Hi Jasmine

Welcome to walk highlands - this site is a great resource.

As you’re in Oxfordshire, you may like to know there is a group “Scrambled Legs and a Pint” that organised walks in the Cotswolds.

But nothing beats Scotland!

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

The Scottish Book kept by Mathematicians in the Lwow School of Mathematics in Poland. However did you come across this HMHT? Well done Sgurr!   I knew about because my daughter’s doing A level maths. More impressive is how did you solve it so quickly! (Unless of course there is a...

Thanks Alteknacker! What is the distant hill? Tim 86B48501-EAA8-4151-9AE4-E92C13F1B059.jpeg Well, the dictionary definition is "a natural elevation of the Earth's surface smaller than a mountain" Other than that I haven't a clue. 😁 Good point! I should have said “what is the name of the d...

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

Could this be the Ken Loach film Sweet Sixteen? Martin Compston played a troubled teenager in Greenock - whereas I think he now plays a cop in Line of Duty (never seen it but the Internet tells me he plays a character called Steve Arnott)

Re: Put me out my misery

If they are stuck on top of the post, them I’m baffled. But if they were on the ground - I wonder if they are salt lick blocks for deer. The holes would form on the upward side of the cube, eroded by the rain, similar to penitentes ice formations in the Andes (although those are formed by arid/cold ...

Re: Sgiath Chuil from Glen Dochart - short, simple, sunny

So pleased to read that someone else has tried and enjoyed this route! Approaching this way turns a hill that’s often regarded as a boggy slog into a real delight. My TR at https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=88324

Re: Where's the Picture................Wales 2013

Seems I've gone from the sublime to the ridiculous... Clue: very VERY well known hills just off the pic to the right... Could it be looking down from the Carneddau (Pen yr Helgi Du?) onto the eastern end of the Ogwen valley? - Gallt y Ogof on the far right, Moel Siabod in the middle? What is making...

Re: Can I have a "P" please Bob - Scotland (2nd edition)

I wonder if this is something to do with the 1843 D isruption, when evangelical ministers broke away from the Church of Scotland to form the Free Church of Scotland? I wonder if the violent conflict leading to a beheading refers to the early conflict between John Knox and Mary Queen of Scots, which ...
