Beinn a' Bhreacaidh

As a resident of Pitlochry, I’ve climbed Beinn a' Bhreacaidh many, many times. The anglicised versions of the name, Ben Vrackie and Ben y Vrackie, stir up debate within the local community, with disagreement over which is the correct pronunciation and spelling. Signposts are spelled Ben y Vrackie, h...

For sale - women’s Salewa Crow GTX size 6

Bought last season but only worn once or twice as I soon realised they are a size too small! I’ve now purchased the size 7. Bought for £225, selling for £100 plus p&p. I’ve tried to upload photos, not sure if it’ll be successful. Cheers.

Re: The gore-tex vs. paramo debate

Having bought many expensive Gore-tex jackets over the years, and been frustrated by their poor performance after too short a period, I decided to try Paramo a few years ago. For me there is no doubt the Paramo has been the better investment. It’s recommended that you clean it more frequently and re...

Supernatural experiences in Luibeilt bothy

Podcast “Uncanny”, series 1 episode 10 tells the scary tale from 1973 of 2 experienced climbers staying overnight in the Luibeilt bothy. Any other spooky experiences to share this Halloween?

Katadyn Befree water filter

Hi there. The plastic lid of the cap has snapped. I couldn’t find where to buy a replacement online so have emailed Katadyn. From a Google search it seems this is a common problem. Wondering if anyone is aware of a soft drink bottle with the same size cap which might do the job? Thanks

Re: Access from Dalwhinnie station

Paul your statement makes it sound like that the underpass route is a problem for people walking, it is only a 10 minute walk from the station. You are not changing the route from Dalwhinnie it is still within Dalwhinnie and so far no councillors or politicians have resolved the matter so surely it...

Re: Access from Dalwhinnie station

Yeah surely it's only 5 minutes on the bike to pick up the underpass. As an alternative you could try cycling in from the North (Laggan side), it's a more interesting approach imho. 8) I don’t use a bike as walking with dogs and I could do without the additional distance each way to use the underpa...

Access from Dalwhinnie station

Heading into camp near Culra bothy on Friday, I decided rather than parking near the underpass as I did on a previous occasion, I would park in the walkers’ car park near the locked level crossing and head over the bridge at the station, exiting the platform via the gate as described on the WH route...

Re: Recommendations lightweight 3 season sleeping bag

Thanks everyone! I bought the Alpkit Pipedream 400 and used it on last weekend’s camp near Culra bothy. It was toasty, lightweight and packs really small so chuffed with my purchase.

Recommendations lightweight 3 season sleeping bag

Howdo everyone. I need to replace my sleeping bag and seem to be going around in circles deciding what to buy. Any recommendations please? Requisites - lightweight (around 800g), comfort rating to around -5, and packs down small. Willing to pay a bit extra to get all of these. Cheers!

Beinn Dearg via Glen Bruar

Decided to do this local hill tomorrow and would prefer to walk in via Glen Bruar for a change. Steve Fallon notes wild ponies and highland coos on this route, which is putting me off slightly as I’ve had a few scary encounters with cows, and I’ll have my dogs with me. I haven’t read any WH user rep...

Copper Spur HV UL 2 Tent versus MSR freelite 2

I’m looking to buy a lightweight 3 season tent for multi-days with my 2 smallish dogs. Much research has led me to a choice between these - the Copper Spur 2 or MSR freelite 2. If anyone has any thoughts, preferences or advice on either, it’s much appreciated. Thanks.
