Winter has arrived on Bynack Mor #167

We were keen to fit in another walk this autumn before weather and holidays got in the way, and Saturday's weather was looking potentially OK - windy with snow showers but some sun. So something straightforward and not too steep seemed sensible and Bynack Mor seemed to fit the bill. With the thought...

A couple of Munros amd a King in Glen Callater #165&166

Decent weather forecast meant the first outing since May (how did that happen!), so chose a bike hike to make it easier. Blue skies as we drove up Glen Shee and parked at Glen Callater car park, which was busy. We soon got going up the good track and it took us half an hour to reach the loch and the...

Meall Dearg the easy way #164

Persuaded Duncan to come up from Edinburgh to join me as Neil was on call and had already done it. Road up was busy as would be expected at this time of year, but turning off at Glencoe village it was much quieter. Set off up the backside of the Aonoch Eagach up steep slopes, knowing the legs were g...

South glen shiel ridge #157 - 163

This was one of the main reasons for renting a cottage near Dornie! We lucked out with the weather and had a scorcher of a start to the week. After an early start and 2 car shuffle, we set off from Cluanie where is a bit chilly- the only time we had our jackets on. There were great views down Loch C...

Windy Easter walk, Meall Chuaich #153

The boys were home for Easter hols and weather looked decent, so I planned the first munro of the year - an relatively quick easy one Meall Chuaich as not too hill fit! Unfortunately Neil was feeling iffy and was sick during the night, so just the three of us headed north. From layby 94 we followed ...

Beinn Fhionnlaidh #151

Solo hillwalk due to bank holiday. 2 hillwalks in one weekend - must be over Covid! Very quiet on this hill, didn't see a soul all day. First few miles on forest track so quick going, then up the hill, boggy at first. Fantastic views on Ben Starav and other surrounding hills.

Saturday of bank holiday weekend was looking like great weather, so me and Neil got up early(sh) and headed north. Creag Leacach before lunch

Following an invitation to meet mum, Lindsey and Janey for lunch in Blairgowrie, I reckoned I had just enough time to get up and down Creag Leacach in the morning. Normally done with Glas Maol, but had done that many moons ago at school. Arrived around 10am and quickly got going as I had a deadline ...

Sgorr nam Fianniadh #147

Jubilee weekend walk with Neil and Duncan. This one was chosen as Neil had done the Aonoch Eagach with Paul before but they didn't bother adding on this munro but went straight down to the Clachaig instead! Also a new one for me - only the AE munros to do out of those in Glencoe. We set off early fr...

Fantastic day up Slioch

Bank Holiday weekend beckoned. Me and Neil decided to do Slioch and booked a night at the Loch Maree Hotel for the Saturday night. It was dreich to say the least on the drive up, but we woke to a beautiful day on Sunday morning. Slioch had a little ring of cloud hanging on it's midriff as we drove t...

Bike hike to Beinn Dearg

Last minute plan as weather looked good. Loaded Calums old and current bikes on the car for me and Neil to do a bike hike to Beinn Dearg from Blair Atholl. Arrived at Glen Tilt car park and did a very tricky manoeuvre to get into a very narrow parking space and unloaded bikes. Saddle on mine was a b...

Geal Charn number 144

Dragged the boys put of bed for an Easter holiday walk while they were still at home. Speedy trip up the A9, over to Laggan and up to Garva Bridge. Only 1 other vehicle there. A very lonely feeling place! Set off 11.15, on a beautiful sunny day with a bit of a chill in the air. All with shorts on th...
