Re: Helvellyn - Striding Edge, Swirral Edge.

Makes all the difference when you get a nice sunny day. First time I went up Helvellyn the cloud line was right up to the summit edge. I was standing at the Swirral Edge marker cairn staring down, hoping it would clear long enough for me to see the way down, when a bloke stepped up out of the mist f...

Re: Clogwyn y Person Arete - If Carlsberg did Scrambles!

I've actually been back to Snowdonia a couple of times since this report but haven't attempted this route again, mainly because the Horseshoe and Tryfan/Glyders are too tempting to ignore. Did the chimney on Sgurr nan Gillean's west ridge and the 'bad step' on Am Bastier up and down. Found both very...

Re: Puig Campana

impiousone - nice to hear about someone else who had the same experience as me. Still annoys me that I didn't get to the notch, but I still had a great day despite nearly dying of dehydration. Great mountain though. Good to hear from you again ChrisW. Yeah, it's amazing how quickly the body recovers...

Re: Tinto revisited

Great to see the direction finder has been replaced. This is what it looked like when I was up there 3 years ago:-

Blue Skies In The Culra

Dalwhinnie, Saturday morning 6am, not a cloud in the sky, and one degree centigrade. As there was no wind just yet it didn’t really feel all that cold and I was in shorts from the word go. After biking down Loch Ericht for five minutes, I had to stop at The Sheiling gatehouse to remove my jacket. Be...

Re: A trip to the far north

Forget the Scottish Tourist Board, this has to be the best advert for the north of Scotland. Absolutely the most stunning photos I've ever seen. Rockhopper, you're in a different league!

Re: Picture Perfect - Grey Corries Traverse

Thanks for the feedback and comments folks. Much appreciated. It's definitely one of the best routes I've done although I was lucky to get such amazing conditions. Incidentally, kevsbald, I read your report when I first thought about doing this route. It was that pic of you crossing the dam that mad...

Re: South Glen Shiel Ridge

Really envious of your superb pics. Did this route about three years ago at the beggining of May. Lots of cloud and hail showers around. The ridge looks totally different with clear skies. I remember getting to the Clunie Inn and ordering something to eat. Couldn't even get the fork to my mouth as I...

Re: Cairngorms

I'll take your word for it, Cairngormwanderer. Hoping to do Ben McDui next year when I'm up, only I'm planning to do it via Glen Derry & Loch Etchachan so I can get to see some different parts of the Cairngorms.

Re: Tryfan - Glyders - YGarn

One of my all time favourite routes. Done it literally dozens of times but never in the snow. Looks absolutely stunning. I take it you didn't risk jumping across Adam & Eve?

Picture Perfect - Grey Corries Traverse

I came to Scotland for my annual week of hill-trekking with two ‘must do’ routes in mind: The full 4 Munro Grey Corries Traverse, and Ben Alder & the Culra. After the rank bad weather (snow, hail, wind) of Thursday I was starting to think my luck was out, but a favourable forecast for Friday (24...

Cairngorms

My route of 38 kms (23.6 miles) was made up of 11 kms (6.8 miles) cycling & 27 kms (16.8 miles) walking. Back in Scotland for my yearly visit. I’d originally planned to do the Grey Corries on this particular day, but MWIS gave a seventy percent chance of clear summits for the Cairngorms. I’d bro...

Re: Beinn Ghlas and Ben Lawers-my first two munros

And mine. I actually did these two in the morning, came back down, crossed the road, and did the whole of the Tarmachan Ridge. Mind you, I was a lot younger then....... and fitter!

Re: Stomper of a moontain!

Did the whole thing back in June. You're right it is a stomper of a mountain as I stomped over it in five and a half hours. Not sure if that is a world record or not, but after two days on the Cullin and one in Torridon, I was feeling mega fit for an old bloke (well, oldish, at any rate). Would have...
