Re: Munro Map Issues

I've now installed Firefox and it seems to be working on that browser.

Re: Munro Map Issues

Sorry, I've no fix but I am experiencing the same issue. I'm using both Google Chrome and MS Edge on my Windows 11 Laptop.

It does work properly using Safari on my iPad.

Re: Is there a Walkhighlands equivalent for the Lake Distric

I’ve found the Walking Englishman site to be useful for getting GPX files for a whole range of walks in the Lake District.

Re: Linking Gairich to Sgurr Mór?

I'm thinking of linking Gairich with Sgurr Mór from Loch quioch dam and wondering if anyone has done these two together? What's the descent/ascent between the two? I did it that way a couple of years ago. One of our club members was completing his third round on Gairich. As I had Sgurr Mor to tick ...

Re: 15 years in the making, the round is compleat

Congrats GLW. Well done on compleating.

I bumped into you on the Strathfarrar hills a few years ago. You were kind enough to give me a lift back down the glen to my car. Thanks again for that - it saved me at least an hour walk along the road. 8)

Re: So how are the midges/clegs/ticks where you are?

The midges were horrendous in Glen Dessarry on Sunday morning. Fortunately a breeze arrived so didn't bother us the rest of the day.

I've had a few ticks this year and also had Lymes which wasn't pleasant (a month of antibiotics was needed to clear that up).

Re: Glen dessarry

Thanks everyone for the information. I walked with weesmudge on Sunday and we had an amazing day.

The midges at the start were as bad as Fife Flyer reported.
Taking the bike definitely saves at least a couple of hours on the day.

Re: Pine marten

I'm staying in Shieldaig this week and there was an glorious sunset out across the loch last night. I decided to end the evening with a glass of wine sitting on the front. As I was admiring the view the chap who lives in the cottage next door pops his head out and asks "Do you want to see a Pin...

Re: Parking for Gairich at Loch Quoich dam

Thanks for the warning.

Our club has a member looking to finish his third round on Gairich at the end of August so we will have a few cars up the glen that day. We will need to make best use of car sharing (within the rules of course).

Re: Ring of Steall

I'll confirm what jmarkb said. I did this walk last Sunday and there was no snow on any parts of the main ridge. Any snow was just to the left of the path on the steep final climb to Am Bodach and the snow on the top of Sgurr a'Mhaim is now completely avoidable.

Re: In Pinn - will it all go horribly wrong?

I did it a couple of weeks ago and I’ll be honest that I when I popped my head about the Sgurr Dearg ridge and saw it there I was definitely having second thoughts. However it’s not as bad from the bottom of the scramble once you are roped up. Just focus on that 1 square meter in front of (you are e...

Re: Camping in Glen Dessarry

Thanks for all the replies. Really useful to read your experiences.

At the moment the plan is hopefully to do it over a decent weather weekend and will only be camped for a few hours on the ridge and then up and out in the morning.

Re: Camping in Glen Dessarry

Hiking out from Knoydart I camped around the location you marked, possibly a little further east. There are some large walled fields to the south of the path that are a bit rough but flat enough for a one-nighter and there was a stream close by. Not on my Top 10 list by any means but the path from ...

I was thinking that if I could camp near the red cross then there was a chance to store the camping gear in a dry bag and then collect on the way out. :?

That’d scupper your chances of Sgurr Mor!

Yes, it would make it a long detour to collect the kit again.
