Re: Corbetts that are finer than the nearby Munro

I also like many of the Munros south of the Bookil. There are plenty, as already mentioned. An Caisteal is a particular favourite of mine - the views are great, and there's good variety in the terrain. I've also done the circuit of B. Narnain, via The Spearhead, and across to A Chrois, and that was...

Re: Corbetts that are finer than the nearby Munro

Re: Trip to Cairngorms in February

Almost anywhere would be less dangerous in winter than the Cairngorms. While I appreciate you're confidence, especially with navigation, it's a very treacherous place in poor conditions. Are you absolutely set on going there? Some of the ones further west would be a better shout, if you are. :) http...

Re: Snow on Ben Cruachan?

A lot of the snow that was on Ben More has disappeared, and the Glencoe area is similar, but the cameras don't show everything, and the norther sides of slopes will still have a fair bit, so you'd need to just check it out when you get there and make a judgement. Ben Cruachan is approached from the ...

Re: Favourite walk of 2021? Why?

Some stunning photos - thoroughly enjoyed them, especially jmarkb's :D I'm not sure Ben Chonzie is improved with good weather, but yes - when it's the first outing after such a long time, it doesn't matter! I didn't do many hills last year either - had to stop due to an annoying thigh problem, but d...

Re: Getting Fit

I agree with Veryhappybunny that the only way to get hill fit is to go up hills regularly, and gradually build up the strength in the muscles by increasing the amounts and severity. I walk around 6 miles every day apart from doing any hills. It can be difficult if you have a long break though. I'm i...

I hope this is ok...

I don't know if anyone has seen this, and I'm not sure if it's ok to put it on here [apologies if it isn't] but I hope a few folk will help, especially those of us who have done this hill, and/or enjoy the views of the hill through the seasons, or know someone in the same position https://www.benmor...

Re: West Highland Way in April

April for me too - for the reasons already given. I found it pleasant in April, but I can't say I'd have enjoyed trying it in August.

The wild camping issue would certainly be something to take into account, as already mentioned.

Re: Walking up to Lochnagar

Maybe it's because I'm autistic, but I still don't see how asking people if they've been on a hill helps you with writing your report. If everyone had simply answered your query 'who else has been there' with 'I have' [similar to ScotFinn65 ] what use would that be? If you just want information on t...

Re: Building new cairns, memorials etc

I see no harm in doing something of that sort. A very sensible solution, and also very respectful @Border Reiver. :)

Re: Building new cairns, memorials etc

I'm of the opinion they should only be in appropriate places - ie for navigation, especially on routes where going a bit off them could be fatal, or cause a serious injury. I was deeply disappointed to see a 'memorial' on Stuchd an Lochain this year, complete with plastic flowers. :( I appreciate th...

Re: Walking up to Lochnagar

I'm not sure I understand your query. I've been there several times, but I can't remember an awful lot about the approach, other than it being pretty straightforward. Obviously, the time of year and conditions have a bearing on that. What is it that you need in order to write a report? Most people t...

Re: Beinn Dorain

Definitely quite straightforward, and around 4 hours should see you up and back - depending, of course, on your fitness and the conditions, and how often you like to stop for taking photos, drinks/food etc. I'm always surprised at how long I stop, but I find the timings on WH are usually about right...
