Beinn Dearg

Beinn Dearg_Glen Lyon.gpx Arrived via the Ben Lawers road, after having a quick eyeball of the snow line and deciding to chance it. No real issues. Ascened and returned via the same route. Decent bit of snow and probably easier going than might have been in summer with peat hags. Had good views ove...

Re: An alpine wander among the Glencoe giants

It's a cracking wee hill for this time of year. You have inspired me to climb it again, even if just to see the turf houses.

Raid on Beinn nam Fuaran

beinn nam Fuaran.gpx Much in the same way as I am impressed by people who do the Ring of Steall, rather than picking off the Mamores in ones and twos. The over achievers who do all five Tyndrum Corbetts in one round have my unadulterated admiration. However, to quote Dirty Harry, 'It's important fo...

Bidean finally

$matches[2] (NB: as is it’s wont, my prehistoric GPS didn’t start recording until well into the walk) Bidean nam Bian has been my last piece of unfinished business in Glencoe for a while now (from the 3000' plus viewpoint anyway). A combination of wanting to save it for a good day, along with the p...

Mam na Gualainn

Dropped one car off at layby just past Callert house. Then drove to Kinlochleven where we headed along the Westhighland way, before departing to ascend the ridge. Cracking views across the Mamores and down Loch Leven. Saw a large herd of deer crossing ridge in front of us. Easy enough going descendi...

Re: Sgúrr Choinnich Mór from Kinlochleven

Given it’s reputation, I am a little relieved you didn’t investigate the singing at Lúibeilt! 😂

Am Bodach and Stob Coire a' Chàirn

Am Bodach220523.gpx I like the idea of doing the Ring of Steall, but I also like the idea of not being airlifted off the hill and being able to move the next day. So when Am Bodach was touted as possibility for a walk, the complete circuit was mentioned and dismissed, with non of us being close to ...

Beinn na Cro, the less gnarly side of Skye

Knowing that since this was a family holiday and I would have the kids in tow, a full traverse of the Cullin ridge was probably out of the question. With this in mind, the slightly more benign Beinn na Cro seemed like a good option being 5 minutes drive from the holiday cottage. At the start we were...

A Mharconaich and Geal Charn

Hike a-mharconaich-170822.gpx Parked at the Balsporran cottages (must have been a nicer spot before the A9 was so busy) and ascended via WH route. Cracking day, though cooler on the summits. Good views across to Ben Alder and Loch Ericht. Peaks of Knoydart just visible in the distance. Numerous har...

One Buchaille peak with kids.

Ascended via usual route up gully, visited one peak and descended same way as plenty for kids. Cracking day, gully is a pig to descend though!

Rewarded for ignoring the forecast on Bla Bheinn

$matches[2] We had sat at the campsite in Broadford the night before, nursing our beers and reading over half a dozen different forecasts. One read something along the lines of "No visibility, Cloud and rain. Possible excellent visibility on coastal hills". This slightly ambiguous apprais...

Re: Midge report

They were biting in Argyll for sure at the weekend. It was an especially sheltered damps spot though.

Heaval

Heaval 150422.gpx We decided to take the slightly easier option of ascending this from the car park behind the quarry. We deviated on the ascent from the WH gpx, following what initially appeared to be more clearly trodden path. This took us round the West flank of the hill before cutting up to the...

Beinn Fhionnlaidh revisited

Had been planning to do Sguilard, but foul weather made us decide to do Fhionnlaidh (2nd time for me) and save Sguilaird for good weather. Not as bad as initial forecast might have suggested, but windy on the ridge.
