Re: Cruach Neuran & Sgorach Mor from Loch Tarsan east dam

Hi prog99 OS mapping doesn't have a firebreak between your two grid references. Is there one not mapped?

Re: Cruach Near Catastrophe!

Just clarifying a nomenclature error in my earlier post. My horrific windblown treefall experience was descending Creag (not Cruach) Ruadh!

Re: Cruach Near Catastrophe!

Hi natubat When we ascended Cruach Neuran in 2019 there was no treefall. However, when I attempted to follow malky_c's descent route off Cruach Ruadh (Kinloch Laggan) in April this year 2022 I encountered similar horrendous treefall as you encountered. I blame Storm Arwin 28 November 2021 and the 3 ...

Re: The day my hope was reborn

Uplifting report BP.
I met you and Kev on Bidean a' Chabair on 7th May. Your country has contributed a huge amount of assistance to Ukraine and it's citizens. My son visited Poland twice to help evacuate the 50 Dnipro orphans and their carers to the safety of Edinburgh

Re: Dun da Gaoithe - chasing the Iona ferry!

Dogplodder. The wobbly metal stepladder stile at the padlocked gate above Upper Achnacroish was too much for my heavy fat folding ebike so a big heavy dog would be difficjult to lift up and over. A lighter MTB is possible to carry over but requires a fair bit of pushing up steeper rough sections of ...

Re: Carn Glas-choire, a Graham near The Nairnshire Challenge

My fat folding e-bike still required a bit of push assist at a couple of steeper sections. The track has had maintenance work done and is a bit stoney in places, not a problem with 4" fat tyres and suspension. I left my bike at the col where the ATV track heads off to the summit and I did notic...

Re: Another route up Carn nan Tri-tighearnan -From Moy this

It is indeed an excellent biking route up the windfarm track to the end of the estate track in less than 45 minutes with just 1.5 km rough heather / lichen to summit not visible until up on broad ridge. Approach is assisted by a very feint ATV track servicing a line of 5 upturned turf grouse grit st...

Re: Birthday wander on Creag Ruadh

I cannot recommend your descent route. I suspect since you did it 5 years ago storms have produced a huge amount of windblown tree-fall making it virtually impassable and now not just a bit of "forest trashing". I struggled severely, crawling under and along trunks, scrambling over trunks,...

Creag a' Mhadaidh & Gualann Sheileach fat ebike from Aulich

The main problem accessing the 2,007ft 612m Graham of Creag a' Mhadaidh above Craiganour on the north side of Loch Rannoch is virtually all the possible parking spaces off the road have been deliberately blocked by large boulders and track entrances have No Parking signs as have most of the passing ...

Re: A wander below Salamander

Hi BP My MacRae ancestors lived in Gleann Meinich (spelt Glen Minch in an 1841 census) about 1800. It was the first glen in Strathconon to be cleared and advertised as a sheep walk in 1808,1812 & 1819. There were no takers initially hence the need to readvertise.. Alexander MacKenzie of Fairburn...

Beinn Ghuilean 352m trig & 354m summit

The 1:25,000 OS map shows tracks going to the true 354m summit of Beinn Ghuilean. I thought it would be bikeable from Killeolan on B842 on road to Southend but no. There are a number of gates to negoitiate with difficulty (tract inches deep in cows' muck at one and another in disrepair). After the 4...

Carns Chuinneag & Salachaidh with fat e-bike

When I requested directions from the Goople Maps app to get to Glencalvie from Newtonmore she gave me the "road" from Strathrusdale to Glencalvie to drive over. Having viewed malky_c's pics of this I requested a re-route via Ardgay as being a better option for my car! I parked off road at ...

Re: Beinn Tharsuinn (Ardross)

Strath Vaich is ideal for even non-fat e-bikes as is Strath Rusdale.
Yes the windfarm track starts at 211m spot height on Struie Road.

W Merkland circuit-Carn an Tionail, Beinn Direach,Ben Hee

A circuit of 2 Grahams and 1 Corbett from West Merkland on A838. The forestry track entrance just west of the house has a large No Parking sign though there is a space to park a car 1/4 mile west and a much larger area to park 1/2 mile west.( I managed to sqeeze the car onto the left verge just belo...

Sabhal Beag & Mor and Meall Horn with fat e-bike assistance

According to the gamekeeper the track to Airdachuillinn and Lone and up through Strath Luib na Seilich over Bealach na Feith down Reay Forest towards Goberrnuisgach Lodge but cutting south before it, over Bealach nam Meirleach coming out back onto A838 at West Merkland is a popular circuit for mount...
