The bridges at the far end (SW) of Loch Muick have now been repaired with some help from the good folk of Braemar mountain rescue - Balmoral's Facebook has photos.

Re: Photo Competition #50 — February 2016

Seeing the Sgor Gaoith photo above I thought I'd post mine from a couple of weeks later. It was a similar photo that made me make one of my now rare visits to the hills. Taken on 28th February with a Canon D6 with minor exposure and levels adjustments. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1460/25237524242...

Re: "New" Munro?

I have heard a rumour that a top on Ben Avon is to be upgraded to full Munro status. Anyone heard anything about this? :? The survey has now been done and it falls 80 cm short of the 914.4 m / 3000 ft mark. As mentioned by others it was never up for full Munro status, only for a Top / Murdo classif...

Re: Been walking? No trip report but want to share some Phot

The Sunday before last I took my MTB around Loch Muick https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7524/15915830795_a32600207e_c.jpg On The Way To Sandy's Seat And yesterday I went past the exact same spot on my way back from Broad Cairn https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7528/15792864527_04a3e66eeb_c.jpg On The Way...

Re: Snow Goggles

You just need goggles with two layers and decent vents. There are plenty on ebay and they are cheap. The problem with ski goggles is that they are designed for skiers. They spend a lot of their time at speed so there is always a flow of air though the goggles' vents. When wearing my goggles over my...

Re: Snow Goggles

Not suggesting you are likely to get snow blindness in Scotland but it can avoid a day of squinting and a bad headache. I take issue with you here Charles. To quote Wikipedia snow blindness (aka Photokeratitis) "is a painful eye condition caused by exposure of insufficiently protected eyes to ...

Re: MTB bike tyres?

Like a few others I'd be more concerned about the river crossings than what type of tyre you are running. It has been raining pretty much all week here in Deeside and the rivers are all chocker. As for tyres, how wide are these road tyres? Proper MTB tyres are 2" - 2.5" wide which means yo...
