Re: Looking for recommendations for grippy trail shoes

Haven't gone far wrong with anything by Inov8. Don't know if the current stuff is as good as it used to be though.

Re: Workington to Whitehaven on the Cumbria Coastal Way

I must do that sometime soon. Thanks for posting. Maryport to Silloth is a good walk also, with lots of new signposts (too many in my opinion!).

Re: Flat walks in the North lake District

Carrying on the Cumbria coastal footpath theme, Maryport to Allonby or Mawbray and back is around 10 miles.
Pubs and cafe in Allonby & Mawbray.

Re: New maps on Walkhighlands

Paul

Thanks for the links provided above. I especially like https://www.walklakes.co.uk/maps2/ which I was unaware of and fulfils my mapping needs.

Re: New maps on Walkhighlands

I shall miss mapping a route to see the distances, mainly in the Lake District. A pity that you couldn't leave all of Cumbria on instead of cutting it in two.

Re: Dun da Ghaoithe and the importance of Plan B

We passed you when descending from Mainnir nam Fiadh closely followed by the other couple. It was an excellent day, eventually, with superb views.

Re: Inov8 Roclite Pro G 400 boots

I've had many pairs of Inov8 boots over the last 15 years (the leather ones were the best but are now discontinued). True, they are light and comfortable at first but will eventually let wet in and need replacing every 2 years or so. Also, you will need to get used to losing a toenail or 2 every so ...

Re: What dogs, are good hill dogs ?

You'll not go far wrong with a Border Terrier. Our last 2 went for miles in the Lakes.
Tomorrow we're taking our 17 month old border/lakeland cross up his first mountain - Bowscale Fell.

Looks gopping. I'd rather see just clouds than Kevin McCloud.

Re: Hen Comb from the West, via Gavel Fell

A brave walk round Hen Combe at this time of year after the wet weather we've had recently. I'd have worn wellies! As an ex-resident of Frizington, I can confirm that when the clag's down you often can't see 100yds from your kitchen window. Much brighter weather most of the time now that we're locat...

Re: Munro/hill names for dogs

We've just had our border terrier, Mac, put to sleep this week at the age of 15, having lost our border bitch Bracken 2 years ago. Already looking to get another terrier in the New Year. Hopefully we'll get a dog and our favourite name at present is Hamish. A timely choice we think, following the de...

Re: Confession Time

I made a schoolboy error only yesterday. Set off from Howtown, up Fusedale and gained the ridge with its wide motorway path. But I had it in my mind that Wether Hill was on the right, as I'd looked at the map the night before. After walking 400 yards, I thought this doesn't look correct, got the map...
