Re: Kids and Munro’s

My middle two girls (7 and 4 yo) did their first Munro today: Meall Buidhe. It was an ideal one for them, as the ascent is only about 500m and the whole trip only about 3.5 hours. Super proud of them. My eldest (now 9), did his first Munro up Ben Chonzie. This has the advantage of being on a landrov...

Found: Tent poles in grey bag - Glen Nevis

On our decent from Ben Nevis to Glen Nevis directy South of the summit and above the Glen Nevis car park, we came across a grey bag with tent poles in it. Photo is attached.
The poles are no in Dundee and can be collected by the owner (or maybe sent).

I consider it among the best bits of gear I have.

Re: Mont Blanc

Shame it's June you're planning for. I'm still on the lookout for a partner for the end of August for Mont Blanc.

Re: McNeish : Note in your car, or NOT

What I've often done in the past is to leave a very simple note saying something like: "Gone hiking. No valuables in vehicle!" Sometimes I have also left my emergency contact's number. That way, at least police etc know why the car is there. And hopefully the bit about valuables not being...

Re: Trail shoes with decent grip

In a similar vein, I was looking for trail running shoes a couple of months ago and ended up buying Asics field hockey trainers. I don't play hockey, but these were far more grippy and easier to clean than the same brand's "trail shoes" ("running" or otherwise) and were cheaper ...

Re: Water Filtration

And another vote for Sawyer, although to be honest I rarely use it and just drink straight from streams and springs

Re: Walking/ Outdoor movies

"K2: Siren of the Himalyas" is well worth a look. Although it's a movie documentary, rather than a movie per se. There's a bit in in where one of the climbers compares K2 and Everest. He totally disses Everest saying of the relative challenges each mountain presents to climbers: "the...

Re: Recommendation: softshell or other jacket

OK, so your question is not really a hill walking question, on a hill walking site. But, I'll give you my answer. I'm based in The Netherlands and cycle about 7km each way to work every day. As I run hot (esp when moving), I tend to use a thin windstopper for all temps down to a few degrees. If ther...

Re: Newbee - looking for suggestions

Thank you! I'm just trying to figure out two things: How do I know the amount of time any of the suggested routes take? The other is: Will I need any gear? Thanks again and enjoy the nice day in Delft (I am in The Hague as I type this!) What I'm also wondering about is going with a guide. I'...

Re: Newbee - looking for suggestions

All of the above is the answer... From Crieff Ben Vorlich and Stuc a'Chroin make a great day and are not too far. Just past Killin you have the Ben Lawers area with plenty of options. Besides the obvious ones there, I would also recommend the Tarmachan ridge with Meall nan Tarmachan, which I often t...
