Re: Great Glen Way high route closure

Thank you for your note. I'm glad you made it back to the road, and also very glad you didn't break your ankle. Damaging ligaments is still very painful though! Six months since my fall and I'm still months away from getting back to normal activities unfortunately. I can cycle a bit now, but a long ...

Great Glen Way high route closure

For Info: The Great Glen Way high route (section between Invermoriston and Fort Augustus) will be closed for several months due to logging, 23rd October 2023 through to summer 2024. The low route will still be open, other than the occasional short delay for passing trucks. https://www.inverness-cour...

Re: Best food on the A9

If you want somewhere before Aviemore, Taste of Perthshire (open to 8pm) and Newtonmore Grill (open to 8pm, 9pm or 10pm depending on the day) are both decent options still serving meals after 6pm and which don't require big detours from the A9. There's Ballinluig Motorgrill too, though I've never ea...

Re: pine forests?

This might help, I assume you want nicer pine forests than industrial forestry ones:

Re: Mountain Rescue – on-scene evaluation

(I'm a paramedic, not MRT) I'd check for medical ID bracelets and for any info in pockets, bag, wallet. If someone is unconscious, we'd be addressing things like catastrophic haemorrhage, airway, breathing, circulation first anyway, and then going on to identify or rule out causes if we hadn't alrea...

Re: Mullered - XXXX hot with a very unpleasant after taste!

If it's any consolation, An Riabhachan is quite a nice walk from the Strathfarrar side, so at least you can look forward to that now?!

Re: Proposed bylaws on camp fires in Cairngorms.

The Scotsman has recently run an article on ten ways to avoid getting bitten by midges when in the Highlands ... first one is "Have a camp fire" ... :(

Re: Foil Blanket, Mobile Phones, Helicopter Rescue, Broken B

You did well to get back yourself to get help! Sounds a painful way to have done it though. Thanks for the tips. I'm out of the cast, and even out of the boot most of the time now, but having problems with the metalwork, and starting trying to weight bear when my leg has done so little for so long i...

Re: Foil Blanket, Mobile Phones, Helicopter Rescue, Broken B

Hope you mend well and are back out on the hills soon, I really like your reports and they are always one of the first I ho to when planning a hill. Yes, this. I know that you've said once or twice that your reports may never win the prizes (and congratulations on that, by the way), but I find them...

Re: Bidean nam Bian - Gearr Aonach zig zags to A & E

I'm glad to hear you made it off the hill safely - great that you had suitable first aid supplies to patch yourself up! I think we've both found the hard way that a nice warm sunny day doesn't guarantee an accident-free day in the hills...

Re: Highlander report of the month winners - May 2023

Thank you so much - a shame to win under these circumstances from my perspective (!) but hopefully it'll have reminded one or two people of the benefits of taking those extra things you hope to never need! :D I'll keep reading the walk reports here over the months of recovery lying ahead, hopefully ...

Re: Calves, ticks, and two Sub' from A9 near Helmsdale with

Thanks, handy tips as always and useful to hear of local(ish) smaller hills I haven't done before with tracks a fair bit of the way for when I'm able to get back up a hill in a few months - I might tick off a new summit before the end of 2023 after all! 🤞
