Loch Lochy Munros to kick off 2019

First Munros of the new year off to a great start with perfect conditions and a nice big dump of snow to play in. Its been a while since I've had a full car of hikers all free and willing to haul themselves up a mountain. Our target for the day was Meall na Teanga and Sron a'Choire Ghairbh. The fore...

2018s last Munro: Bynack More and a night in Ryvoan Bothy

So with the Christmas holidays in full swing I was itching to make use of some of my days off to get out on the hills for one last hurrah in 2018. I selected two days in between Xmas day and Hogmanay to attempt a Munro and bothy stay. The decision was Bynack More and Ryvoan bothy. I'd heard some goo...

The Easains in the snow

Great day on the hills today with winter back and the mountains snow-capped again. Was originally going to head out on Saturday but a few friends were busy and so we agreed on Sunday. This had the added bonus of an extra hour in bed due to the clocks going back! With a 5:40am alarm in the morning th...

Scouts tackle Ben Venue via the Bealach nam Bo

With Munro bagging making up the majority of my free time and almost all the nearby munros exhausted I was starting to realise that I've neglected the smaller hills in pursuit of becoming a Munro Compeationist. Being a Scout leader I've always wanted to try and get my scouts onto the hills with me t...

Bike and Hike in Glen Ey

With Saturday forecast for sun across much of the country I was a bit spoiled for choice as for where to go. With my usual walking companions unable to join me I was eager to make good use of the bike for those tricky hard to reach munros. It was a toss up between Glenfinnan and Glen Ey for a bike a...

Angel's and Devils - 2 days in the Cairngorms

It had been a few months since my last epic walk carrying a large pack and felt now was a good time to squeeze in another before the depths of winter firmly take hold of the highlands. With reports of a few snow flurries in the Cairngorms it seemed like a nice way to ease back into winter walking al...

Re: Inversion on the South Glen Shiel Ridge

Great report Matthew - a phenomenal day for it! Hopefully I will get my second inversion later on in the year like yourself. Always thought that full ridge looks like no mean feat. Sam was my neighbour back in primary so good to see him in a report! Haha, no way what a small world. Hes been with me...

Inversion on the South Glen Shiel Ridge

I'd had my eye on this route for a long time and always wondered if I would ever manage to bag all 7 munros in a single day. The summer of 2018 had been fantastic so far with a lot of dry sunny weather giving a real enjoyable time on the hills. I was now starting to do some real damage in the northw...

The Loch Laggan 3

After my epic trip to Fisherfields to cross the half way mark on my munro bagging journey I was looking for something a little less demanding to continue with. Also I wasn't up for another 5 hr drive so soon after the last one. My plan has always been to try and do all the multi munro days in summer...

Passing the half way mark on the Fisherfield 5

I had two days left of unused holidays to take at work and I selected Monday and Tuesday in the last week of May in the hope for some dry weather. I was sitting pretty on 140 Munros and i really wanted to pass the half way point with a really memorable outing. I knew i wanted to go further north tha...

Return to the Aonach Eagach Ridge

The first time I done the Aonach Eagach was in October 2016. Me and 2 friends camped at the Kingshouse and attempted the ridge on a damp and misty day. It took us about 11hrs but it being October meant the daylight was scarce. It was quite nerve-wracking that day. Visibility was very poor and we wer...

Mullardoch Munros with added boat trip

With the weekend weather set to bring warm clear skies I though it was time to venture back to the Northwest highlands. This has been an area I've rarely visited since I started Munrobagging but having exhausted the great majority of hills south of the Great Glen I thought I should get up that direc...

2 Days in the Cairngorms with night in Hutchinson Bothy

Been desperate to get into the Cairngorms again since last September when I cycled to An Sgarsoch and Carn an Fhidhleir from the Linn of Dee. There's something magical about journeying through such a remote wilderness. Its calming and awe inspiring. To abandon the hustle and bustle of ordinary life ...

Just normal boots, I've got a pair of really good scarpas so had no issues. Conditions were not too bad, Crampons werent required.
