Cu Mara on the lochside in Arrochar. Superb takeaway, pricier than most but absolutely worth it. Haven't tried the sit-down bistro but any food establishment that scores 4.8 out of 5 on Google Maps from 350 reviews must be doing alright...

If approaching from the south/east (in combination with Am Faochagach probably to avoid the wet crossing to the road) there is a good spot at the northern end of Loch Prille as per mrssanta's report here: https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=84121

Pitchup is worth checking, as is using Google Maps zoomed to the area you require and searching for 'campsite'. Assuming you are walking in a fairly direct line (i.e. not around the coast) then only Blinkbonny Wood appears to be en route. More options nearer the coast.

As jmarkb says the alternatives at the start of Ledge Route can be a bit confusing. If you want to avoid the tricky outward-sloping slab (particularly if it has been raining before/during your approach) then the following report by Cairngorm creeper gives a very good description of the 'easier' alte...

Comrie Croft. Within walking distance of the easy Munro Ben Chonzie, plus mountain bike hire on site if you/your son are into that. Wide variety of different tent pitches, from close to the facilities to further out (which would allow you to test kit in a semi-wild camping location before buying new).

I'd got this one already so no change for me. Mallerstang is lovely though - take the Settle & Carlisle line to either Garsdale or Kirkby Stephen and walk back along the tops.
