Re: Altbergs but which ones
If the Mallerstangs are too much boot for you it would really be a toss up between the Tetheras and the Nordkapp. It all depends which combination of last and width fitting suits your foot shape and fits the best. I'm not sure the Fremington could cope with a crampon. As already said no harm in taki...

Re: How big is your winter pack ?
It’s a 30 l Karimor bought in 1993, used summer and winter. It is really comfy but is has a worrying number of holes where the base meets the back. I use a dry liner bag for waterproof ness but still worry one day the base is just going to fall out of it. I have tried buying one replacement but it ...

Re: Altbergs resoled
What model of Vibram sole is that? It doesn't look like one of the standard soles Altberg use on their boots?

Re: Boot recommendation
Greaves have been clearing their Altberg stock at reduced prices over the past few months. Prices have recently gone back up and the only Altberg boots they're showing available online now are the 2-3 Season Altberg Fremington. It looks like a trip to Edinburgh or much further south may be needed to...

Re: waterproofs
Nikwax Tech Wash needs to be used in combination with the occasional use of Nikwax TX Direct (either Wash In or Spray On depending on the item) to be effective and restore the waterproofing. After 7 years you've probably had your money's worth out of them and it may not be possible to restore the wa...

Re: salomon boots
Not a very well known brand in the UK as yet but it might be worth having a look at the Oboz Sawtooth Mid B-Dry Boots. If you would prefer a shoe rather than a boot they also make the Oboz Sawtooth Low B-Dry Shoe. Both Mid and Low versions are also available in a non waterproof version. From persona...

Re: Nubuck boots, cleaning and restoring.
As long as the leather is not showing signs of cracking it may be worth trying to revive them. If you want to keep the brushed effect of the nubuck leather have a look at using the Grangers Gear Cleaner and Footwear Repel Twinpack. If you're not bothered about keeping the brushed effect Berghaus Con...

Re: Multi-country boots
The Altberg Tethera Ladies might be worth a closer look.
Not cheap but they have excellent reviews, available in 5 width fitting and half sizes and can be resoled if and when required.

Re: Size 9.5 boots
If these haven't already gone I'd be more than happy to give them a new home.
I've got no access to PMs (long time lurker/reader) so you'd need to post an email address so I can provide details etc.
Happy to pay for any postage costs involved.
