Re: Your favourite golden eagle encounters

One of the best was many years ago climbing up to the bealach on Suilven. As I crested the top a Golden Eagle was soaring along the far side at the same level a few 10s of meters away. Spectacular! Have disturbed on descending from the Grey Corries, down the ridge to the small dam and another when d...

Re: The Coldest Shore - A Winter Solo CWT attempt

That was a great read. I don't think you could have had much more thrown at you. I think that river crossing would have done for me! I walk most of the time on my own, although usually only for a day or two at a time. The self doubt that can be experienced on embarking, and during, a journey you hav...

Re: Balance/Shmalance

Some years back I had something similar and it was diagnosed as Labyrinthitis. I did not have the Tinitus with it though.

It was antibiotics from memory as a remedy.

Re: A'Mhaighdean, RSM & more from Poolewe - Hallowed Be Thy

That looked like a great trip!
The weather was good and still reasons (if any were needed) to head back in there.
I can't wait to go again.

Re: Assynt - superb

Nice report FF. I was in the clag for most of the walk on these 2 and the 'track' up to the ridge was a boggy mess. Good luck with the Fisherfield 2 in a day. It took me 11 hours to do these from Carnmore and back to Poolewe. Take bikes if doing these in a day and you can get a fair way past the for...

Re: blister prevention

I used to get blisters on my heels often. I sweat as soon as I start moving so similar to the issue you had I think. Years ago I was advised to put fabric tape on my heels. When I do this I rarely have an issue. I tape from the middle of my sole to midway to the calf. The fabric ones work best in my...

Re: No weeping in the glen today

Went up this is the winter and continued to walk back along the WHW.
A great little hill that I will be up again no doubt.
Thanks for the reminder.

Re: Midges!

I was in Assynt last weekend and there were not many about.
However the weather was mixed so with the current weather it could be 'normal' and you would get their attention.

Re: The end of the round

@Weaselmaster
Thanks. Don't think I will quite as avid in the hills as yourself though!

@Dogplodder
Highly recommend the approach. Even better if Carnmore was rented for a few days and taking in all the Corbetts as well in comfort as @Sgurr did in a report some time ago

Re: The end of the round

@IreneM
It was a better way to finish than Ben Klibreck that was my initial intention!

@Graeme D
Hopefully the weather will hang around long enough for you. Good luck.

@Mal Grey
The views are indeed stunning, I look forward to returning to the area for the Corbetts.

Re: The end of the round

Thanks @Bonzo, @Rockhopper & @gld73.

The end of the round

I had 2 Munros left to complete the round and had 2 weekends pencilled in for possible trips. Wanted to do the trip in May in a bid to avoid midges at much as possible after an aborted attempt from Lochan Fhada last September which was infested with them, the weather being the final nail in the coff...

Re: Foil Blanket, Mobile Phones, Helicopter Rescue, Broken B

Thanks for sharing.
I also walk a lot solo and this makes you realise how quickly a situation can develop.
Good effort on attempting the self rescue.
Take care and hope you get back to the hills soon enough.
