Re: Montane Terra pants

That's a pity, they're good trousers. I would have been tempted to try another pair on the off chance.

Re: Montane Terra pants

Still on my first pair from 2011, love them. Would probably try them on when buying a new pair though. Did you exchange them?

Re: Current snow conditions thread 2019

I'm not a big fan of snow condition questions on FB, mostly due the reliability of the replies, most advice is down the lines of: "I drove passed two weeks ago looked fine" "I was up there 5 days ago, crampons not needed" "Don't bother with an axe and crampons"... You'v...

Re: Beginner for Nevis

Ben Nevis via the tourist path was my very first mountain back in 2008 and I was fine. It's a bit of a slog up and it was really busy, but I enjoyed it at the time. Depending how this winter pans out, there could still be a lot of snow on the Ben in May. It's impossible to know conditions at the mom...

Re: Trail shoes with decent grip

I wear Innov8 Roclites too. Really grippy and paired with waterproof socks they're great for 3 season use.

I found this article useful too:

Re: Water Filtration

Definitely the Sawyer Mini filter, it also fits on a regular Cola bottle, meaning you don't need to faff around with squeeze bags. The filter will also fit a Platypus water hydration bladder. When you've hit camp, remember a rolling one minute on the boil is enough to kill all germs etc in the UK. N...

Re: Boggiest Hills?

Definitely Beinn Chabhair, by a country mile. I can recommend the approach from Derrydarroch as a good alternative - there is a newish, but thankfully not too ugly, hydro track that leads to the stream junction at NN357196. From here, follow the burn and open grassy gully above (no path but reasona...

Re: Heated Gloves

Never tried them, can't imagine them being that effective on the hills. Have you tried those hand warmers that you shake to activate or mitts?

Re: new backpacking tent advice

Take a look at the Tarptent Scarp 1 or 2. Requires importing from America, but they're great tents.

Re: Walking/ Outdoor movies

Into the Wild was good, as is North Face if you don't mind subtitles as its a German film.

YouTube is a wash with lots of great outdoor content too.

Re: Hiking the Skye trail with dogs

If you go onto YouTube and search for 'Hounds of Howgate' he did the Syke Trail with his collie Moss. He's usually quite quick at answering questions on his channel.

Not sure how he got his passed the bad step though. :?

Re: new backpacking tent advice

It's always helpful to know your budget. Backpacking tents start at around £100, right up to £700+.
