Re: Midge report

Hrm, sounds they'll be out to bug the hell out of us then when I'm in the Highlands between May-28 and Jun-5. Will stock up on Smidge.

Midge report

Hello, with Summer(-y) weather already hitting super early here in mainland Western Europe, and the flying bugs following hot on its trail, I was wondering if the same weather has been happening in Scotland and its Highlands the past weeks/month. And if so, have the little critters called midges com...

Re: Bothy etiquette during covid

Both your replies is exactly why I made this thread. I feel the exact opposite as Giant Stoneater does; I do want to communicate and have small talk with 'strangers' / fellow hikers at the end of a day in a bothy. But it's good to hear that others feel the exact opposite and prefer to keep their dis...

Bothy etiquette during covid

Hi all, after my 2020 and 2021 trips into the Highland were canceled due to the travel restrictions, I REALLY am looking forward to my trip this late May/early June. As a solo hiker I tend to use budget options such as hostels but the ones I'm passing by are either closed as of now (Glen Affric YH) ...

Re: How did you get on in 2019?

No Scotland for me in 2019. I ventured into the Slovenian hills and mountains in July. Did part of the Slovenian Mountain trail. Walked from Slovenj Gradec to Trzic and then a bit in Triglav National Park, Bohinj to Bovec. Quite spectacular, and I'd love to go back to do parts I didn't do on this tr...

Re: Skye trail

I did this trail north to south in June 2018 with the exception of the part between The Storr and Portree, and with a side trip to Raasay in between. The way is easy to follow. There's pretty much a trail all the way through, save along the Trotternish Ridge, but here you can well, follow the ridge....

Re: Cape Wrath Ultra Run

It is a very long way and I dare say it will be muddy in places but my recollection is not of a mud bath. Just a brilliant walk through magnificent scenery. I don't have a bucket list, but if I did, this would be on it. I don't think my fitness and skills are up to the job at the moment, I could ma...

Cape Wrath Ultra Run

Hello,

how bad is the CW Trail after the Ultra gang has stampeded through? Does it turn the trail into a massive mudfest that it makes it a lot more difficult to walk it? Only just noticed that my dates are somewhat overlapping with the dates for this 2020 run :\

Kinloch Hourn to Cluanie

Yeah, me again with another thread. I always do this when I'm planning a long trip to your lovely Highlands. Sorry about that. I'm looking at going from Kinloch Hourn towards Alltbeithe but want to bypass Morvich as I did that stretch before. Think my best alternative is then to go via Cluanie. If I...

So what are its official closing days? As mentioned by someone else, the SYHA websites says nothing about these.
