Re: The Black Mount Duo

Congratulations on WR of the month. After spending a night in a tent near Ben Alder, I expected you to poke your heads out and find they were half a mile away and the noise had carried, as happened to us, though ours had the added "bonus" that having poked his top half out, R returned with...

Re: The Great Stone Chute to Sgúrr Alasdair (in sandals)

Just had a report from sister-in-law of her husband's post grad nephew stopping off en route for the hills with NO waterproof trousers, NO hat NO gloves and he had left his pillow for the club hut with them. You can only survive such things at a certain age.Stone chute in sandals!?!? When I arrived ...

Re: The incredible power of awe - Sgor Gaoith winter summit

Richly deserved pick of the month, as others have said on so many levels. The long awaited recovery, the stunning photos and the actual exploit at a freezing time of year. WELL DONE, WELL DONE, WELL DONE.

Re: Five Hills from the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, Langdale,

Not sure how I missed commenting on this, but great report. I've yet to do Esk Pike and Great End. I seem to have left a lot of the big ones till last :( That's why I ended up taking a guide: not because I doubted my ability to find my way, but in case I bombed through exhaustion. I am more worried...

Re: Five Hills from the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, Langdale,

Thanks for the report Sgurr, took me right back to the start of my climbing life in my teenage years. I probably first did that round when I was sixteen, over sixty years ago and lastly in 1992. You have now spurred me on to go back and climb Bowfell again before my knees give out for good. Mention...

Re: The car-less adventure series part 1

I sort of did this when I did the WHW though only Tyndrum to Bridge of Orchy, I don't know why the company I booked with didn't put me up in Crianlarich as it would have evened the two days. Maybe because you have to go backwards a tiny bit. Are there still plenty of walkers at this time of year? Ha...

Re: Fabulous Frosty Fhionnlaidh

Fabulous day. A whole lot of us (previous Scottishhills members) were staying in the Corran bunkhouse the previous weekend, and although we got out (me on smaller hills) it was nothing but gloom and drizzle or rain.

Re: Dufourspitze - climbing Switzerland's highest mountain

What a cracking day. Outwith anything I have ever done or considered. Would you have had to pay the guide extra to see you onto a more certain descent? It looks horrible.

Re: An Cù .Tha na laithean a' dol Seachad... the days flash

Only got to this report as you won runner up in the walks prize for November. Congratulations. I have never owned a dog, but have several grand-dogs. Loss of Hazel, the deputy environmental planner was worst. Who else would accompany daughter to meet strange would-be wind farmers in the middle of no...

Re: Just joined.

Hope you found peace and quiet. Shame you didn't feel like staying on Arran, there are some cracking hills there even if you didn't want to go for the higher ones. Welcome. (P.S. There is good walking to be had after 70....I am 84)
