Re: Fionn Bheinn - Saturday 21st

That looks like an interesting peak, not that familiar with this area but it looks like there are a couple of quite accessible hills, including Fionn Bheinn, in here which I will plan to do in near future!

Re: Golden plover?

Yup, Golden Plover, they can sound very eerie on the hills in the mist with their wailing call!

Clagged out on Sgritheall!

Staying in Arnisdale for a few days I did not want to miss the chance of a Munro right on my doorstep, the weather had been quite good but the still conditions was not helping to blow away the hilltop cloud and the forecast was not set to change. The best looking day dawned with no improvement, deci...

Wet and windy visit to Beinn Fhada!

Arrived early with a great deal of apprehension, got kitted up and set off with fingers crossed for the forecast improvement in the weather later in the morning. $matches[2] On to the path and the rain was holding off, very wet underfoot. $matches[2] Out of the trees, heading up towards the Bealach ...

Re: Grouse Moor primer- another perspective

The Scottish Gamekeepers Association has gone to great lengths here to appear reasonable in the defense of their "Sport". However, reason is not something which tends to translate into actions to address some of the issues that arise from this activity. This sector goes to great lengths to...

Re: David Lintern's article

Driven grouse shooting is unsustainable (therefore need for medicated grit, exhaustive predator control and muirburn to maintain high numbers of grouse), uses a lead in cartridges which is a heavy metal which has all manner of environmental/health concerns (hence why it has been removed from many ev...

Re: Bird ID

I agree with most of the suggestions:

1. Wigeon
2. Little Grebe
3. Moorhen
4. Female Goosander (due to contrast between head and neck)
5. quite dumpy so I am leaning towards juv Wheatear or juv Stonechat
6. Golden Eagle
7 Common Buzzard

We have two eyries and resident pairs near us in mid Argyll out on the Islands and another sight which has been abandoned this year, sadly. So...
