Re: Anyone looked in 'The Window' recently
Thanks jmarkb, kinda confirms my thoughts and is probably what I'll do.
I was sort of hoping that someone might chip in with "I was up there today. The snow is a skoosh. Deffo no need for BIG boots and ironwork"

Anyone looked in 'The Window' recently
Planning Creag Meagaidh this weekend and wondered if I'll need B3 boots and crampons because of the snow, or whether I can get away (on ascent only) with B2 boots, no crampons and an ice axe for security?
Any indication of conditions would be welcome.

Re: Lurg Mhor and Bidein a Choire Sheasgaich by bike.
Thanks so much for such a thorough and clear description. Extremely helpful. I am planning maybe for early next week (March 2022) with this high pressure forcast, and like you were, I too am struggling to estimate time by bike. The best I could manage was comparing to the ride into Carn an Fhidhleir...

Re: Female Reed Bunting?

Around almost to the top of the head. If you're out at that location regularly, you might be able to watc...

Re: Beaver Fever
There was a comprehensive survey commissioned by NatureScot published in 2021. Its long and scientific but in amongst the figures are 'density' maps which show where beavers are, including in the Trossachs https://www.nature.scot/doc/naturescot-research-report-1274-survey-tayside-area-beaver-populat...

Re: Fide Coastal Path and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
Exactly as walkerali described, but like I said, the tide was favourable. Good weather and had a bit of craic with the golfers. Pretty good weather. Walked from Cambo to Crail then back cross-country over the hill. Must have gone unknowingly through 'The Shire' cos we passed a Hobbit house beside th...

Re: Fide Coastal Path and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
Oh, very good. King Canute etc. I suspect with predicted sea level rises, it'll be more than Fife Council needing to hold back the tide. Anyway, back to the question. I'm only wondering why walkers would need to wait for the tide when the whole of Scotland is available to one side, and why an altern...

Re: Fide Coastal Path and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
Thanks for your thoughts. The Scottish Outdoor Access Code, which codifies the Land Reform Act describes how I may take responsible access to cross any golf course and describes how this may be safely done. It also provides advice to golf course managers as to how to provide for my safe and legal pa...

Fide Coastal Path and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
Apologies if this has already been discussed. We're looking to meet up with family and walk from Kingsbarns to Crail and back. Looked it up for timings etc. and read the walk guide. Surely it can't be correct in the time of the Land Reform Act and SOAC that walkers have to wait for the tide to retre...

Re: Fungi identification
Is there a tree stump under there? Looks like angel's wings. We've seen several groups these last few days and while they are supposed to be edible (and good) we were put off after reading of someone in Japan who died after eating what seemed to be a related species. Chanterelle are more golden and ...
