Re: West Highland Way: Solo From Drymen to Fort William

I have a lightwave pack and at under 1200g for a 55L, its fairly lightweight for the price (I think it was about £70 from go outdoors). Its pretty much waterproof, which is great not only for keeping stuff dry, but also for not getting heavy in the rain. The problem I have with it is that it is jus...

Re: West Highland Way: Solo From Drymen to Fort William

There are some lightweight budget options, I know I've had to take them as I'm poor! A stand-out 1kg rucksack is the Exped Lightning 60L . Internal frame, able to take 24kg, 15K HH. Famously comfortable. It's much cheaper than other packs of similar weight, even so I had to save up for it. Good inv...

Re: West Highland Way: Solo From Drymen to Fort William

Have to say 20kg is brutal . Well done you for lugging it!! I was jealous of a Youtube Ultra-Light guy I was watching last night, he got his entire through-hike pack (without food) down to 6kg. Lots of expensive cuben fibre. Sickening! Yes 20KG is brutal - determination a go-go! I think it is easy ...

West Highland Way: Solo From Drymen to Fort William

I finally got to write the report :) My WHW trek was a bit different to what it usually is for many others: it took me longer and I did one day of rest. I'm 39 and was pretty out of shape when I started. My backpack was too heavy (right after restocking close to 20kg  ) https://i0.wp.com/awom...

Re: Compeed plasters / zinc oxide tape

Hi all, Apart from decent socks and boots, are Compeed plasters the best thing for preventing blisters? When I did the Great Glen Way several years ago they were a real lifesaver and stuck for a good couple of days but I now find that they slip round to the side of my ankle even after a fairly shor...

Re: Camera - without breaking the bank

I use a Sony RX100 M2 compact and it takes great pictures. I second the Sony rx100 series. I have Mark 3 and absolutely love it! I own a DSLR (Canon) but it's just HUGE. The newest is mark5 I think, which means the lower marks should be getting cheaper. It's not a budget camera - but if you are ser...

Error with posting long walk report

Hello! I tried to post my WHW report but hit some issues. First - I can't choose West Highland Way from the menu, the list stops at "St. Cuthbert's Way" and there are the three walks missing. I tried to do it both ways - starting a topic on forum and clicking under WHW trail description - ...

That's the one I have:

Re: Advice on Combining 3 Long Distance Walks

I've done the WHW into the Great Glen... pretty easy, but I would skip the first part of the Great Glen - it's boring, basically walking through the town, and non stop on hard surface, which was not the best for my feet. I actually didn't finish it - when in Fort Augustus I decided to cut it short a...

Re: Single man tents

Hello! Sorry if this has been covered before but It would be great to get everyone's opinions. Looking to get into a few overnight (1 or 2 days) walks/climbs, but want to keep pack space and weight down. Ideally would like to keep the price down but would spend a bit more for a particularly good bi...

Re: Which waterproof boots do I buy

Hi folks, here looking for advice again since you were all so helpful last time :D. After going up sgurr an utha on the west coast a few weeks ago and getting my cheap karrimor boots absolutely waterlogged I've decided it's time to invest in something decent. So I was looking for a 3 season boot th...
