Re: Ideas for Viewranger replacement.

I'm also a refugee from VR/OA. Viewranger suited me perfectly, and alongside 'proper' map and compass navigation, I could actually use it on the hill to quickly check stuff like 'how much more ascent do I have until I get to the top?'. OA seems to be completely useless as a genuine navigational aid....

Curved Ridge - A Video Report

A little video report from a wander up Curved Ridge on 18th April. We had absolutely beautiful conditions this day, bright splitting sunshine, hardly a cloud in the sky. This qualifies as one of the best days I've had out, just completely relaxed and no pressure whatsoever. Complete fun from start t...

Scrambling/Climbing Partner Wanted - West Scotland

Hi all, I'm Ayrshire based, and trying to get out as much as I can, but unfortunately suffer from 'flakey-partner' syndrome, often leaving me without anyone to go with - so I'm looking to build up some more folks to go out with! Was meant to be going out up Sron na Lairig tomorrow, but my partner ca...

Re: Ben Starav

 brilliant wee read this................and I love your jacket, it's a peach  Ah man, the jacket is brilliant. I love the thing. Everything on it works, no fuss, no hassle. I can access everything with thick gloves on, it's tough as hell, pretty light, fairly packable. I'd say it'...

Ben Starav

Oh boy, what a day this was. I've been rather unlucky this winter, in only getting one trip done this year so far - so my fitness has dropped like a stone, and I've been going crazy pining for the hills. Eventually, enough was enough - conditions were good, and companions or not, I was going up some...

Re: not a novice anymore

It is a fairly interesting question - at what point can you be considered no longer a novice / beginner and considered a competent hillwalker? I wouldn't necessarily jump to say 'you must have completed X number of QMDs' - although I'd say 20 is a fair number. By that time you should have experience...

Anybody passing along A82 on Monday afternoon/evening?

Doing a trip above Bridge of Orchy tomorrow, not entirely confident that I'll make it back in time for the 1504 bus to Glasgow (going to be tight for time), and would probably rather not shell out £20 for a single on the train to Glasgow at about 1900, or wait for the 2015 bus - but can be done in a...

Citylink Experiences?

Hi all, As I don't have a car, most of my trips have been made by bus. However, I'm starting to get to the point where there's getting to be a fair old walk between my destination and the closest bus stop. I initially wrote those munros off as being impossible to do in a daytrip by public transport ...

Re: Mountaineering Fitness

When fully tooled up we must have been carrying about 60 pounds and that is nearly half of your weight!! I suspect that he was talking about the pack being half of MY weight, given that I'm just a smidge over 130lbs. What's the verdict on activities like stair climbing w/ hill pack weight, as they ...

Re: Mountaineering Fitness

Thanks for the tips all - as I already get out into the hills as often as I can (every couple of weeks, but should be more often now), I'll come up with some sort of plan to fill some of the time in between. P.S. I'm guessing with a user-name like that, you're a Yes and Rush fan ... Most certainly! ...

Mountaineering Fitness

The long and short of it is - while I'm fitter than some obese, doughnut scoffing pleb, I am nowhere near as fit as I would like to be. I can take on a couple of munros no problem, but I'm usually pretty ****** for a couple of days afterwards. I usually run out of energy quickly and end up having to...
