Re: The silliest sign you've seen on a walk?

Near Altbeithe youth hostel we spotted a sign "Bridge" pointing to a bridge over a burn, and only a couple of feet away from the bridge. If you could see the sign you could see the bridge!

Re: Who left this?

What a good idea re dropping it in water. I didn't take it home with me and haven't been back there, so sadly haven't had the chance to have a look.

Who left this?

I saw this on a stile, 3 feet off the ground on Low Fell in the Lake District last week.
Any ideas who might have deposited it? My book of droppings, tracks and pellets didn't have anything similar

Re: Resistance training, improving fitness for hiking event?

I think it would be worth seeking advice regarding your post exercise tiredness as this does not seem normal, or ideal with your goals in mind. Maybe speak to a medic & a nutritionist. Are you sure you are eating and drinking enough? There are suggestions on hill food at https://www.mountaineeri...

Re: Hiking Eateries

The Bridge of Balgie tea room in Glen Lyon serve gorgeous scones (and nice cake) and also have outdoor seats with views of the river. Another vote for the Lochinver Larder - very good, despite not being the cheapest. Halloumi & chips and a pint mug of tea from the Real Food cafe in Tyndrum is bl...

Re: Outdoorsy film review - is there a thread yet

Interesting thread. I watched Dejame Vivir on Netflix the other day, about Kilian Jornet running up and down mountains (such as the Matterhorn) Absolutely stunning - but utterly terrifying to watch. Race to the Summit (with Ueli Steck and Dani Arnold) was similarly a glimpse into a very different wo...

Re: Rohan

Good quality kit. I have a pair of their stretch trousers with an insect repellent finish which are comfy and lasting well. I bought them in their sale - they have quite good sales. I haven't tried their waterproofs though.

Re: "true" distance covered over rough ground

Skylines is right, shorter steps do give apparently longer routes not just on rough ground, but also on steep ground. When I used a Fitbit I found the distance on the Fitbit could be longer than the distance I got when I linked my Fitbit to the phone app, which uses GPS tracking. I compared the two ...

Re: Meindl boot equivalent

One of my DH's Meindls detached their sole just after the second peak on Beinn a' Glo. He threw them out, and now REALLY wishes he hadn't as no other boots have been so comfy. (In my experience LSR does great resoling if you do want to give them another go.)

Re: Scottish Big Five

What a great thread!

I'd love to add snow buntings, which are just gorgeous and can live in such harsh environments.

Re: Paramo velez jacket for Scottish winter

Hi
My DH mostly just wears the Velez, but if it is very cold he takes his down jacket in his pack and will put it on at the same time as the Velez when he stops for something to eat. It would have to be VERY cold for him to wear both when active.

Re: Paramo velez jacket for Scottish winter

My DH has a Velez jacket which he likes a lot and wears for much of the year, either over a base layer or base layer plus fleece.
For really cold weather he does still use a down jacket though.

Re: Dog Hill Etiquette.

There seems to be far too much bagging it and leaving the bags of dog poo lying around or draped over greenery. I wish people who bagged it would actually take it away and put it in a bin.

Re: Fuar Tholl from Coulags

Great pictures. We just followed your route up Fuar Tholl and thoroughly enjoyed it. We didn't see anyone else away from the main path up the glen either.
