Re: Removing Fabric Softener

I would assume I wash and 1 rinse. You probably need the detergent to remove the fabric softener. Why don’t you just wash a load before without fabric conditioner? I really don’t know why people use fabric conditioner. It shouldn’t be used for so many things like towels, duvets, jeans, sportswear, f...

Re: Campervans

A few years ago, while getting the ferry and rickety bus to Cape Wrath, we were talking to a couple from overseas. They were a week into a 3 week holiday: 2 weeks in Scotland, in a motorhome and then a week in London, in an hotel. They remarked that today was the first time they had spent any money ...

Re: Runnable Munros Near Lochcarron

I am reading this thread with interest. We will also be staying near Lochcarron for a week shortly. I have also noted down all the munros mentioned. In comparison our trip up and down Blaven took us 9 hours!! In our defence, we had a bit of a walk to and from the start as the car park was closed and...

Re: parking question, munros near Braemar

Point taken Scraggygoat! It just tickled me. Completely agree with your reasoning.
I would never criticise Aberdonians. My lovely father in law was a proud Aberdonian.

Re: parking question, munros near Braemar

Weekdays you'll likely have no issues but weekends be prepared to get up early or have a plan B. E.g mid. June last year the Spittal of Glen Muick car park was not far off full by 7:30am on a weekend - it was good weather though. Linn of Dee gets busy too but it's bigger and has overflow parking no...

Re: Walk Highland map issue

I love maps. We live in the south east of England so only come up to the highlands once or twice a year. As soon as I know the area we are staying in, I buy the orange OS maps for the area if we don’t have them already. I then spend the next few months pouring over the map and planning our walks. I ...

Re: Kintail Munros plus Glen Lichd (and lost camera)

Thanks very much for this TR. We hope to get up to Kintail at the end of May (covid restrictions allowing🤞). We are hoping to do the sisters, but we are not good with scrambling. You describe the difficulties quite clearly . I don't know why Glen Licd isn't used more. After reading this report, our ...

Re: Appleton Thorn, Grappenhall, Walton & Stretton

I enjoyed seeing your pictures of Grappenhall. For a few years In the 1960s I used to live in a bungalow in the grounds of Grappenhall Hall School as my father was a teacher at the school.

Glen Strathfarrar 3 +1

We live in the South East of England, so any hill walking trips in Scotland have to be planned well in advance and can’t be cancelled just because of a forecast of really bad weather. For the first week of our trip we had booked a chalet at Culligran cottages, just within the Glen Strathfarrar gate....

Re: Protection against out of control dogs

No they are not. You can communicate with a human, you can't communicate with someone's over excited/aggressive dog. If someone can't keep their canine uinder control so that it doesn't bother other people, the problem is with them, not the victim. Stop victim blaming and drop the militant extremis...

Re: Lochnager Help - Complete novice!

Hi I am 65 and my husband is 67. We are seriously slow! Unfortunately we discovered hill walking far too late in life. As my husband keeps a spreadsheet with our timings, I thought this might be of use to you. We climbed Ben Nevis, our first Munro, in 2009. It took us 8 hours there and back. Having ...

Re: Older GPS devices could be hit by ‘millennium-style’ bug

I've two old garmins that I thought may be affected but both of them showed the correct date & time after they eventually found the satellites (hadn't been switched on for a few years) I took the old yellow garmin out for a 7 mile walk today. It found the satellites. It hasn't cured the problem...
