Re: Auchlean to Glenmore Advice

We've a detailed description for most of that: https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/kincraig-aviemore.shtml Where you diverge from that, from Loch an Eilein to Loch Morlich, is on large, clear paths. Paul, many thanks for the info! I didn't realise this was part of the EHW. Looks to be a well...

Auchlean to Glenmore Advice

Hi all, I'm looking for some advise on the existence and quality of a path from Auchlean towards Glenmore. I've added a .gpx of the area in question, taken from Strava. Their heatmaps do show some activity but equally satellite phots show dense greenery. Any knowledge of this area and what to expect...

Glencoe Conditions

Hey folks,

Anyone been in the Glencoe area recently? What's the conditions like at Munro level? Webcams would suggest only patchy snow.

Thanks

Re: Options for camping or wild camping near Glen Sherup!?

Heading towards Whitewisp from Innerdownie's summit, there is a gate in the deer fence (half way ish and within a boggy area) that that takes you onto a path directly to Tarmangie. There's a few good spots along there with plenty tree coverage for shelter. Another good spot but perhaps more exposed ...

Re: Ochil Landslide

I was up on the hills Saturday past for a run, a big one for me from Bridge of Alan to Glen Devon, via a loop of Seamab. Whilst 'in the zone' I didn't notice any of the landslides!

Must head back up at a more leisurely pace to investigate.

Re: Ochil Landslide

Saw another Ochils washout today, at least as big and - so I thought - more impressive than the Gannel/Whum one. This one is on the NE side of King's Seat Hill, from approx 550m and quite wide - it's on the slope above the upper end of the Glen of Sorrow and, as with the other one, doesn't affect a...

Re: Ochil Landslide

Just received more feedback on this. It appears to have occurred at roughly NN 918 003. Seemingly quite significant. Ta - pretty sure that's the one I saw on 11 August (which therefore would have happened during the rain on 4 August), as thinking about it again what I saw in passing (I was heading ...

Ochil Landslide

Hey all,

I've heard that there has been a landslide near to Gannel Burn in the Ochil range. Does anyone know exactly where this has occurred in relation to the path back up to/ down from King's Seat?

Thanks

Accessible from my house so a nice option in the current climate. Not an ideal walk up the A823 but it won't take long.

Re: Cleish Hills

Looks like it should be OK to take the minor road east past Meadowhead and hop over a gate at about NT041966 onto the hillside on the north side of Wether Hill: https://goo.gl/maps/7npwMmgh1S8PUgXt9 - is that roughly where you had in mind? Direct access from the A823 seems well defended by fences a...

Cleish Hills

Hi all,

Anyone know of access points to the Cleish Hills from the Powmill end of the A823?

Many thanks.

Re: Coylumbridge to Linn of Dee through Lairig Ghru in winte

Thanks - there will be two of us and we are fit, experienced hikers that have done plenty of 20 mile day hikes in the past (but not through deep snow), and we will have poles and crampons and decent waterproof/ warm kit. But we looking for a long day hike ending at a town not a slow crawl/ trudge t...

Re: Trail Running

Hi, I'm a keen mountain runner, I've probably ran more Munros than I have walked now. There is certainly a different dynamic from running on easy trails or roads to running mountainous terrain. Like someone else said, the very best training is that performed on similar terrain. On terrain found in G...

Re: Lightweight Running Shell Alpkit vs Montane or others

OMM offer good options, depending on how lightweight you want to go, the Halo is super light 100g ish. A good racing jacket that ticks the FRA rules etc.
