Cape Wrath Trail for Jamie, Coire Fionnaraich to Cape Wrath

In May 2022, I walked the Cape Wrath Trail, in memory of our son Jamie, who died by suicide aged 17 in 2019, and to raise funds for Papyrus, the national young suicide prevention charity. This describes the second half of my journey, you can find part one here: https://www.walkhighlands.c...

Re: 2nd failed attempt at Lochnagar

You'll make it eventually.

Beinn nan Aighenan has beaten me three times - last time I didn't even get out of the car park!

Re: The waiting is finally over

What a great day!

The hills always look better covered in snow, especially on a bright day like that.

Sgurr a'Mhaim in the clag

I stayed at the Glen Nevis Youth Hostel after my ascent of Sgurr Eilde Mor: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=59276 . I woke the next day with legs stiff and aching, even after carefully applying some internal lubrication the night before. No hills today! It was another fi...

Sgurr Eilde Mor on a wonderful winter day

As I approached my last 100 Munros towards the end of 2014 I thought I might write a report of each on here, leading to a hopefully magical conclusion on Schiehallion sometime in late 2017. So a whole year and 42 hills have gone by without a word being written, such are our plans sometimes! In the s...

Re: Boreray - St Kilda

Hi Andy - great to hear from you. We met once at the St Kilda club dinner in 94, I think. If you look at my other posts you'll see I've been trying to make you famous here! I'll send you a private message as well in the next few days. The route is higher - it's about 2/3 or even 3/4 of the way up. I...

Re: Gleouraich and Spidean Mialach

Great report - love the area.

Hey MC Gairich is lovely (but probably not in a snowstorm) - walk over from Loch Archaig, stay at Kinbreac bothy and knock em all off in a couple of days - sweet!

Re: Ben Nevis

Well done - I'll always take my hat off to those thousands who slog their way up the ben and then back down again when It's their first and probably for most only big hill - the determination!

Re: Sandaig and the Ring of Bright W'otter

What a great report - good work getting a sighting of the otter. I do know one or two people in the general area and I'm afraid Gavin Maxwell evokes mixed responses there!Have a read of his biography for more details. I guess like most iconic/charismatic/driven people he was also a bit of a ... well...

Re: Ben Nevis via CMD Arete - A not so amazing trip report

Hi - some good pics - I did the Ben by your route and was amazed by the crowds when I got to the top. However it's the biggest hill in the Uk and accessible so you know there's going to be a few folk there - it doesn't detract from the rest of it for me. I also did reflect that to a martian I was ju...

Boreray, St Kilda - video of an ascent

Hi - this video follows on from my Stac Lee posting - it's a landing on Boreray and ascent to the summit by Jon Warren, Andrew Elwell and Steve Holloway, the Warden in May 1990.
I love the start: "where to next then?" "Boreray!"

Re: Stac Lee, St KIlda

HI Bob - send me your address via pm and I'll send you a much higher quality DVD which I think will be better for planning your climb - you'll see much more detail. If you're happy with the quality I've posted just send me your email address. I'm no climber but from this clip it seems the biggest pr...
