Re: Proof of the Earth's curvature on Ben Klibreck!(?)

My experience of using a full-frame dslr and three different top quality lenses is that each one, given a set of criteria, focal length, position of horizon, will result in photos with distorted horizons whether taken at sea level or a few hundred feet of elevation. On that basis I would not trust w...

There are two possible solutions, extra socks (always has been my solution as I have sli...

Re: Best tick repellent for tents and gear?

DEET damages plastic and some other synthetic materials. I'd be wary of spraying it on tents and gear made with synthetic fibres.

Re: You support masts in wild land (allegedly)

As I understand it the network's primary purpose is to get 4G mobile coverage to all rural properties. To do so needs a network of cells that can transfer the signal round obstacles, hills, to reach the properties. The coverage on the hills is a by product of the primary intention not a driving fact...

Re: You support masts in wild land (allegedly)

I reckon there is more to this network plan that just providing 4G broadband to rural communities.. By providing 100% coverage for mobile broadband then in the longer term the wire network could then be scrapped saving £millions on maintenance. Servicing a few hundred masts will be vastly cheaper th...

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

I'd a happily pay a little extra too, for sure, as I would to keep libraries and the many other services that some see as 'non-essential'. I also think that FLS should front up a bit in the situation, they've done okay over the years covering our hills in non native species, it would be very easy f...

Re: The Highlands don't need or want parking charges!

Tourists while contributing to the local economies ( i.e. contributing to local business owners profits) they do not make any contribution to the upkeep of publicly owned infrastructure that they enjoy and on which they also cause additional wear and tear. That is patently false and myopic, tourist...
