Re: Demoted Munros list.

rgallie wrote:Is there a list of these anywhere?

I am not fussed about doing all the Munro tops but quite fancy doing anything that was once considered a Munro and then demoted.

http://www.hills-database.co.uk/downloads.html has a table of peaks with their status at each revision of Munro's table.

Re: NEWS: US firm Bristow chosed to run SAR helicopters

There are lots of potential problems with privately run services and they tend to be introduced as a matter of dogma rather than expediency. Sometimes (in the right business) they work well and sometimes they don't. I don't think anyone has faulted the existing SAR service- which means (as a user) ...

Re: NEWS: US firm Bristow chosed to run SAR helicopters

How is it going to work now then as a private company needs to make cash for share holders. if you are stranded on a hill with a broken leg do you have to negotiate a price before getting picked up.  Glad it is not Bristows Aberdeen tho they would turn up 2 days late. What happens if...

Re: Ptivatising Search and Rescue

MCA's SAR helicopters are already privatised. The helicopters coming out of Stornoway (who provide support to MRTs such as on Skye) and Shetland (plus others down south) are operated by CHC Helicopters. Do CHC do a bad job? Has the service they provided resulted in lives being lost? Can someone expl...

Re: Help finding a Col

You have cols as well as passes & saddles on your list. I always took them to be the same thing, or at least that in Scotland bealach covers them all. I might be wrong though and may explain why I'm often lost :D  There are three commonly used words that I've seen that describe the bit bet...

Re: off track on glas tulaichean

I'm glad that my photo came out! It's a bit troublesome using a wee compact camera with big mitts on! If you look carefully, you're both visible on the top of the shoulder in this shot here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/maccookie/8154454749/lightbox/ I take it that you didn't find the bridge that cr...

Re: Snow White on Glas Tulaichean

After a bit of indecision at the summit, I opted to come down Glas Tulaichean via Glen Taitenaich on Saturday. I'm glad I did, as the sun made a bit of effort and broke through the cloud briefly. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8488/8154458953_a3f7b66665.jpg A glimmer of light by MacCookie , on Flickr...

Re: Schiehallion declared wheelchair accessible!!

Back off track, the article also says Sheihallion is best known for its conical shape.. I thought it was best known as the inventing place of the contour line? Maybe they've changed the article since you read it, but it currently says, and I quote, "Schiehallion is famous for its almos...

Re: Schiehallion declared wheelchair accessible!!

Good point! Not sure if you can call Schiehallion 'accessible' if you can only reach the shieling! Maybe some sort of chair lift could be constructed on the final two thirds............ The article doesn't say that the summit is accessible to wheel chair users. It says that the mountain is wheel ch...
