Re: TN Laser comp 1, MSR Freelite 1 or Nordisk Telemark?

Hi can I ask what you decided? After a good deal of research I came down to the same options. Actually bought the Freelite but it is quite a faff to put up - cant imagine three different pieces (including footprint) in a howling gale. Wondering about returning it in favour of the Terra Nova(only had...

Re: The Cairngorms in a complete whiteout

You're made of sterner stuff than me. I would have retreated out of that first white out, especially knowing that my destination (Sgorr Gaoith) was right on the very edge of precipice. But fair play to you for persevering and getting it right.

Re: Tora-tora! Ben Avon from Tomintoul

Just like to say this is a great report which encouraged me to gt on with what I had already been planning. To anyone considering Ben Avon (and indeed Beinn a Bhuird), I agree with you; this is a far better route than the slog in from Slugain. I went in the same way as you but went on to Beinn a Bhu...

Linda Cracknell

Just wantedto say what a marvellous piece that is by Linda Cracknell and what a brilliant addition to your stable of contributor. There are million reasons for going on the hills but its good to be reminded, and so lyrically, that, in many ways, getting to the top is the least of them.

Re: Cameron's Viewpoint: The Future of Cape Wrath - it’s...

Good to have some talking points, and good to have a regular agent provocateur. But regardless of this particular topic, slightly disappointed that you have opted for the ubiquitous McNeish in this role. We could do with some fresher voices; Ralph Storer perhaps, or almost any of the writers from th...

Re: Schiehallion - 22/05/10

Crikey, I thought my little girl was doing well when she got to the top of her first Munro, unaided as here, a few days short of her 5th birthday some years ago. That was Ben Sgritheall, so a real sea level to summit job, but even so...3!!! Nice tale. All the camera nonsense just makes it better.

ski touring in scotland

Is there anyone out there who is interested in ski touring in Scotland? I reckon there are maybe half a dozen days a year when it is still worth doing, especially in the Cairngorms where the high plateaus are ideal. I would like to hook up with people who have any experience. I can ski anything, hav...

Re: The Angry Corrie

If you are referring to "The Angry Corrie" hill wallking fanzine, I can reassure you that it is in excellent health and likely to reappear soon. Its editor, the splendid Dave Hewitt, knocks out an edition more or less when he feels like it, three or four times a year. Read back issues (and...

Re: An Socach and surrounding hills

Great post, not least because it is so valubale to have accounts of reaching these more remote hills which require a certain amount of forethought. Just turning up at the roadside layby and heading (my ususal technique!) doesn't quite cut it.

Re: Your favourite walkers pub in the Highlands?

Agree Cluanie is over-priced; also thought the service poor and off hand last time we were there (two summers ago - and we were staying there). Has the Glenelg changed hands recently? Used to be wonderfully eccentric. Is there anywhere in Ballater and Braemar that is fun? Yet to find somewhere that ...

Re: Your favourite walkers pub in the Highlands?

Got to be the Clachaig; alwas going like a fair, decent beer, mountainous portions of food, tall tales being told on every hand and just a great vibe.

Re: Creag Meagaih Circuit

For once the standard route is as good as any; into Coire Ardair from the Lagganside road at Aberarder car park and then strike north up the ridge coming down from Carn Liath. Once your're up on the ridge, it' more or less level and great walking west all the way to Stob Core Poite Ardair with the s...

Re: The Fisherfield Six

Man, all I can say is you guys must be super fit. A couple of guys and I did all six last Sunday, in the same direction, in pretty near ideal conditions (ie not too hot, not too much wind, dry underfoot and clear all the way but for one brief shower after we had left the last top). It still took us ...

Sean Braigh

May 25, 2009 I'm writing this not because I have fab pics (the two here were quickly taken on my very ordinary phone) or epic tales to tell but only because no-one else on this forum has written about this hill yet. But it's a belter of a hill and not nearly as difficult to get to as it may look on ...
