Re: Blencathra via Doddick Fell

Me and Nicola once climbed up that way with awful hangovers on a beautiful May morning, turned out it was the perfect cure! The nice nap in the sunshine on the summit helped as well. Nice photos. I've only been up the Doddick Fell ridge once, but I remember it being a very enjoyable route; I'd say o...

Re: Ocean and Islands from Ceapabhal on Harris

Wonderful report of what is a magnificent wee hill. Brought back my own fond memories of being up there on a superb summers day.

Re: Cheviots Done and Dusted

I've come across more blocked and overgrown paths in the Cheviot\Northumberland region than anywhere else. For some routes the ability to scale industrial quantities of barbed wire is a must-have skill. It's not somewhere I'll be rushing back to - apart from the coastal routes. Glad it's not just m...

Cheviots Done and Dusted

For this walk I decided to knock off my last two unvisited Cheviot Hewitts, namely Bloodybush Edge and Cushat Law. There are multiple options for bagging these but the two most appealing start points seemed to be either Hartside or the road to the fabulously named Ewartly Shank. Reports of some seri...

A Wasdale Weekend

My second round of the Wainwright fells is nearing it's end. Apart from Wansfell, which I have saved for last, the remaining tops were all best accessed from Wasdale. With this in mind I booked a room at the Wasdale Head Inn to mop up these fells. Hughie, for those wondering, is still going strong a...

Re: Littledale Round

Your opening remarks really struck a chord with me, JK. Going for a walk just for the sake of the quality of the terrain and scenery itself takes us back to our original and purest motives for hill walking. It's all too easy to become distracted from these by the somewhat acquisitive motives of lis...

Littledale Round

Sometimes you just want to go for a walk, sod any lists containing featureless flat topped bog fests just a walk on some hills you know and love. So far as the Lakes are concerned the North West fells are perhaps my favourites for pure enjoyment. Maybes they don't have some of the grandeur and excit...

Re: Sycamore Gap tree destroyed

It's as good a time as any to replace it with lots of native species, though I have no doubt they'll replace it with like-for-like or maybe even a bronze cast of the tree. The writer Robert McFarland suggested a forest in it's honour, great idea which won't happen given it's on grazing land for cow...

Given it's location It was always going to be missed, I take your overall point however.

Re: Sycamore Gap tree destroyed

Probably did it for a Tik-Tok video. Such upsetting news, vandalising a building is one thing, it can be rebuilt/repaired but a 300 year old tree?

Re: Lake District: High Tove, High Seat and Armboth Fell

Considering the horror show that route used to be the path looks great and entirely justified. Everyone will use it as well unlike the Sail Zig Zags.

A Lovely Bit of Wensleydale

This was a fairly easy plod around two of the Dales less heralded eminences. There have already been several reports on this walk, or close variations, so I'll let the pictures do the talking in the main for what was a beautiful day to be out and about. I parked just outside of Burtersett and set of...
