Re: Munros for 6 yr olds

For our seven year old, going with friends and their slightly older kids ( 9 and 11) made a big difference to the motivation (and fun). The Corbett Ben Vrackie was his first 'big mountain' earlier this year using that approach, while Mount Keen proved just a little too far recently with just Mum and...

Re: When is it time to hang up the (football) boots?

I'm closer to 50 than 40 and play a regular bounce game on a Monday night. It's a nightmare trying to keep up with the 20 and 30 year olds who play with us! If I've had a big day in the hills at the weekend I often give the footie a miss as part of my recovery / to avoid an injury. I wouldn't do it ...

Re: Thunder and Lightning very very frightning

I once saw lightning strike a boulder on the ridge up to Scafell Pike. I was just below the route up Great Gable having been in that same spot within the hour in glorious conditions. Still gives me shivers imagining someone had been up there at the time. Luckily thunder claps and a dark cloud had se...

Re: Walkhighlands Munro guidebook discount

Mine arrived a couple of days ago. It's great. I particularly like the descriptions of nearby watering holes, accommodation and eateries for each area. Not something my other guides have. The route descriptions are easy to follow and the odd historical fact / side bar and photographs are also really...

Re: Decent scrambling boots?

Hi. Just checked online and the SL M3's are only slightly lighter than your Manta's so probably not what you are looking for. Oh well.

Re: Decent scrambling boots?

I've had a pair of Scarpa SL's for almost five years. They are brilliant. I wear them year round - lots of scrambling through the summer and with crampons in the winter. If I do a really long day they do start to feel a bit heavy, but I wouldn't go lighter because the stiffness of the sole and ankle...

Re: Torn waterproof trousers

I used 'seam grip' bought from an outdoor store to fix a similar looking hole on a pair of soft shell trousers earlier this year. It did the job.

Re: Spidean Mialach and Gleouraich – our Vicar of Dibley day

yeesh. That looks like one itchy leg. Great adventure and report.

In answer to your final question. Perhaps you could fill a platypus or camelbak with red wine and get some midge free drinking under the net that way...

A great reminder that a simple up and down can be made all the better with an overnight stop. Good report.

Re: Aonach Eagach & Pap

Nice one. Pictures of the hen party in dresses on the ridge would have been something different!
