Re: Livestock Loch Quioch

Cattle graze at parts of the loch. Haven't been down there since June last year but they were around the bridge at Glen Quoich. As for deer, there are hundreds of them down that way. The same can be said of most glens, though, so I wouldn't let it deter you.

Re: La sportiva ultra raptor 2.

I assume you mean these https://www.lasportiva.com/en/ultra-raptor-ii-man-black-46m999100 They look to me like they're designed for trail running rather than hillwalking. From the sound of it, the sole is soft to make it more comfortable, but that means it's less durable. Whether that's a problem i...

Re: Proof of the Earth's curvature on Ben Klibreck!(?)

Besides, everybody knows that earth is flat. It's crudely spray painted on the back of road signs up and down the A9. What more convincing could anybody need?

Re: Easter in Alladale - plus a remote bothy visit.

Was up Carn a' Choin Deirg (cracking summit btw) on Sunday myself and was keeping an eye out for you. Sadly I've read enough of your trip reports over the years to know that a 14 plate Skoda Yeti in a car park means you're nearby somewhere! Always somewhere, yes 😂😂 What route did you take up ...

Re: Loch Turret access road

It was up there with the worst roads I've ever driven when I was there three or four years ago but it's been retarmacked now.

Re: Your favourite golden eagle encounters

I'd had one of those days doing Carn Bhac and Beinn Iutharn Mhor in the bog and clag that make you question why you get up at 04:00 at the weekend to do hills... The day was saved by coming within a couple of feet of a hen harrier. It must have been preying on something, I walked by and near soiled ...

Re: Boot Care Question

So long as they're leather all you should need to be doing is cleaning them regularly with cold water and occasionally applying wax to them. The Brasher ones look like they might be Nubuck leather or similar. Putting wax on them will probably make them look darker but shouldn't affect anything else.

Re: Water bottle pouches

I bought a 600ml silicone bottle for attaching to my rucksack - having got a bit sick of bladders leaking/not knowing when they're empty. I also quite like to pop an electrolyte tablet in on longer days. Anyway, these were cheap and do the business - robust silicone which I think will last longer t...

Re: Parking for Carn glas-Choire

I parked there recently with no issues. Two cars nose to nose should be fine.

There is also the option of parking off the A9 at the T junction that leads to Carrbridge. Haven't done that route myself but there are tracks on the OS map that lead between Carn Loisgte and Carn nan Eagan.

Re: The silliest sign you've seen on a walk?

The ones on grouse moors that say dogs should be kept on leads for the protection of ground-nesting birds. I'm curious what makes you say this? (I agree with you but seems to be a controversial thing) I believe dogs should be kept on a lead where there are ground-nesting birds or vulnerable mammals...

Re: You support masts in wild land (allegedly)

Imagine they were 5g masts. Shares in tinfoil would skyrocket.
