2 munros and a corbett from near Rannoch Station

A brilliant sunny day. The only cool place would be up on the ridges where a gentle breeze was very pleasant. I set off from the layby across the road from the start of the Road to the Isles, signposted Fort William via Corrour. I had decided on these munros from here as I did not want to be rushing...

Winter walking in May: Sgurr a' Mhaoraich

Winter seemed to return last weekend and we were faced with the coldest early May bank holiday since records began. I checked the weather and decided on a midweek walk to Sgurr a' Mhaoraich, my 4th munro at Loch Quoich. The road is open again after the landslide last November. I set off at 8.30am. S...

Beinn Fhada in the sun and wind

Hot and sunny Easter Monday. The best place to be was up a mountain. I had completed A'Ghlas Beinn last week in cloud and decided to come back to Morvich this week to complete Beinn Fhada and see the views. I was not disappointed the weather was wonderful. Sunny and clear with views for miles. Enoug...

Re: Landslide near Loch Quoich dam update.

Thank you so much to everyone for all comments. I had been planning the munros along here last year but only completed Gairich. I cannot wait to go back and do the others. I see from posts this week that the road is open. Could anyone confirm that it would be OK to drive my VW Golf small car along p...

The Brack and Cnoc Coinnich on a sunny spring day

A bright sunny spring day. Strong winds after about 500m. I followed the Walkhighlands route. A clear path to summit of the Brack. Very steep and exhilirating. Great views. Pretty lochan. Stunning crags. Route down to bealach was interesting requiring some navigation but pretty straightforward. Some...

Stob Ban Grey Corries in unseasonably warm February

The weather suddenly warmed up in early February so after retreating to sub 2000s, Grahams and Corbetts over the winter I was delighted to be able to climb my first munro of 2019. Stob Ban in the Grey Corries had been on my to do list for sometime and it seemed like a straightforward outing for this...

Ben Cleuch in the wind

Windy circuit. Solo walk steeply up Mill Glen then the Law. Visibility poor after 400m. Easy ascent to Ben Cleuch. Straightforward descent. Good path throughout walk. Exhilirating.

East Cairn Hill in the snow

We followed the Walkhighlands route which was excellent. Paths and tracks fairly clear throughout although obscured by deeper snow at timez. Hard work making new footprints. Easier on more welltrodden parts. Wind was fairly strong and sleet was on and off. We missed the true summit but made it to th...

White Coomb Circuit round Loch Skeen

Epic snowy walk. Clear and sunny till summit of White Coomb. Very cold when not moving. Alone. Saw no one till return on path after burn crossing. River in spate. Had to remove one boot to paddle one step at far side. 7.5 hour total. 2h to LH . Too exhausted to go to cairn. 5h to WC summit. Beautifu...

Beinn Eich and Doune Hill

 Early start from Luss carpark. Over the footbridge and on to the minor road. A bright clear morning and a very pleasant gently rising walk for about 3 km till the start of the hillwalk. Sign broken but stile and path easy to locate. Icy so not too boggy. I met a shepherd with dogs moving his ...

Beinn Dubh

Lovely walk with path throughout. Fairly steep ascent to first summit. Boggy and indistinct path beyond to 657m summit. Easy descent down grassy path to minor road. Walk back in did not feel like 3km. Very misty, little to see until last part of descent. Warm with drizzle and not much wind. A good s...

Meikle Bin

Great walk through forest on good track past reservoir. Plenty of signposts en route. Final path up hillside clear and open with wonderful views. I walked over to Bin Bairn on the way back. No path. Lovely day.
