Glenfinnan Double

20200814_141336.jpg Early start from Glenfinnan carpark on a clear sunny day with little wind. I crossed the road bridge then headed right up the glen towards the railway bridge along a good tarmac road. 20200814_180716.jpg Easy walking made for fast progress and I soon passed the sign for Sgurr Na...

Snow on Cairnsmore of Fleet

Clear skies were forecast in Dumfries and Galloway. I decided to walk up Cairnsmore of Fleet, the most southerly Graham. I followed the WH route. Paths were clear till summit plateau where I was able to follow a line of cairns through snowy ground. Wonderful views. Easy walking. Snow higher up but p...

A82 road closures

Does anyone have information about A82 road closures between Bridge of Orchy and Glencoe village? There was a sign at Tyndrum last Friday but I missed the info as I drove past.

Cairn Toul and Sgor an Lochain Uaine from Linn of Dee

I had been planning this walk for a long summer's day. I had intended to climb these 2 and Devil's Point last summer but ran out of time and energy so only completed Devil's Point last July. Then lockdown happened. Finally the 5 mile limit was removed and I was able to venture back to the hills afte...

Last Hills Before Lockdown

It seems like a lifetime ago that I was out on the hills. This was my last walk before Coronavirus rules stopped hillwalking for everyone who needs to drive even a short way to any hill. Good luck to everyone at this difficult time. We will get through it and the hills will still be there. These Don...

Lamachan Hill

Early mist changed to clear sunny weather then the clouds came down and wind became gusty and strong on the summit plateau. Rain lashed down on the latter part of the descent. I planned to do the full route as on WH including Curleywee but didn't quite manage due to a number of reasons. I set off ea...

Re: Misty Criffel

Thank you Sgurr. I walked pretty fast as weather was poor and I was worried about fading light. I've recently stopped using poles and my walking speed has improved!

Misty Criffel

Storm Brendan was taking hold but it did not seem too bad on the afternoon I had free after a visit to Dumfries in the morning. I set off from the carpark at the end of the Ardwall road. No other cars were parked and I saw nobody else on the hill. I put on full waterproofs and plenty of layers and h...

Allermuir and Black Hill Pentlands

Cold sunny day with some snow lying and possible high winds forecast, I decided to tackle some lower summits in the Pentlands. I parked at Castlelaw. I didn't see the carpark which isn't signposted, until I returned. It's on the left at the end of the public road just after taking the right hand for...

Ben Starav and Glas Bheinn Mhor

I had prepared this draft over a year ago but when I saved the draft it disappeared. I've only just figured out how to retrieve drafts. When I reread my notes it all came back. It was one if my most memorable walks! Unfortunately I can't attach my photos as I'm told they don't have right amount of p...

Broad Law on Hogmanay

Mild clear weather with little wind. No snow but some icy patches. The ground was firm with less bog than I expected. I wanted to finish the southern Corbetts by the end of the year. The approach minor road was perhaps the trickiest part of the day as it was icy and ungritted with some steep section...

Moorfoot ramble

$matches[2] I decided on this walk for the shortest day of he year. Weather reports were variable but less rain and better visibility were reported in the Borders so I headed for the Moorfoots hoping for hard ground and minimal mud. I didn't follow the WH route but set off from the B709 at Blackhop...

Corserine and ridge walk along Rhinns of Kells

A great circuit from Forest Lodge. I followed the Walkhighlands route and soon emerged on to the open moor. A narrow path through tall grass and bracken led to the steeper ascent of Corserine to its plateau. The mist came down at this point but I found the trig point easily using map and compass. Th...

King's Seat Hill circuit

A pleasant walk from Tillicoultry over Kings Seat Hill to Dollar and back. Sunny bright and clear with little wind and great views. Clear path. Descent to Dollar was lovely and return along the cycle track seemed shorter than the map suggested. Reccommended.
