Re: Recent snowconditions Knoydart

I was in Killin today and the snow was lashing down on Ben Lawers. Every year we get people saying the same thing: “I wont need winter gear will I?” Yes you do. April is still winter up in the hills. Maybe you could hire some kit? Craigdon Mountaineering shop in Aberdeen used to hire out such stuff,...

Re: Getting to Kinloch Hourn from Fort William

Isn't there a bus to Invergarry then hitch from there? If a car goes down the road to Kinlochhourn it will likely be hikers so they may just stop and pick you up.

Re: Your favourite golden eagle encounters

I have often seen eagles in the highlands, so much so that I almost took them for granted. One soared close by when I first started exploring the Cairngorms, I took it as a good omen and so it has worked out. Another displayed for ages one afternoon far north as my brother and I fished a high corrie...

Re: Greetings from France, and Scotland fan

Greetings from Scotland! Try the Eastern Cairngorms, around Braemar, Ballater, and Aviemore. Great scenery, loads of low-level as well as high routes, wildlife and less rainfall than the west.

Re: River Allan Walk Greenloaning/Kinbuck - Scary cow experi

I used to get harrassed by herds of heifers (young cows as oppossed to steers = young bulls) when I went fishing at a loch in Ayrshire. They would vault fences to get at me, no doubt thinking they were going to be fed. they can be dangerous as they get into a stampede mentality and can't stop, so co...
