Re: Hi everyone

I have a question, I have a personal blog where I write about my mountain hiking trips. Is it possible to share some of its content in this forum, or is it possible to use the same material for the walk reports? We're not fussy. Welcome and check out older stuff for funny tales of derring did... ht...

Re: The benefits of bright clothing

At certain times of year the colours of the moorland foliage make even orange, red and yellow clothing become some kind of camouflage. For truly gruesome colours and designs, watch some 1980s video footage of hikers and climbers; random arrangements of yellow and purple shapes made waterproof jacket...

Re: Australian hiker new to Scotland

Welcome to Scotland ~ I hiked a bit in Oz; the Flinders Ranges, Mount McKinley Bluff near Lake Frome, and up in the Snow Mountains at Mount Kosciouskou. Hillwalking here in Scotland is quite different in that you are seldom more than a few hours away from a human settlement or at least a road. You c...

I surmount that problem by never playing rugby in winter. Nor any other time.

Re: Kintyre Way in May

Is the camp site you refer to at Loch Morlich Glenmore Camping In The Forest? Am I right in thinking the walk from Aviemore station to Loch Morlich takes between 2 and 3 hours? I notice there is no camp site or hostel at Aviemore. I do not know the name of the campsite at Loch Morlich, the time tak...

Re: Military Exercises

I wonder what would happen if we joined in? Like that time someone shot firework rockets horizontally from a tube, discombobulating and confusing a submarine commander off the Isle of Skye...

Gosling Rescue

I was driving along a single-track road somewhere south of Obaig when suddenly a little gosling ran out in front of the Caberfeidhmobile. I could see two adult geese some yards away; they were calling and the little gosling was cheeping away, trying to get to them. I stopped and got out of the vehic...

Re: Kintyre Way in May

Given April and the start of May have seen persistent below-average temperatures, maybe the midges will be out later than normal this year. Thanks. In fact, that's what I told a friend of mine today! I don't think that cold affects them. They are in league with Beelzebub and can withstand anything....

Re: The benefits of bright clothing

That's what I was getting at. Literally no one is trying to demand compliance. Oh I think we can all think of someone who would demand compliance. And also she would demand that she should be judge, jury and executioner... personally, I would hire her if she paid me (a very large sum) Me too, but o...

Re: Kintyre Way in May

the Cairngorms National Park is of course nearby. I presume there are one-day walks in the park but are there any camp sites? I don't know the Rob Roy Way but I am familiar with the Cairngorms. If you finish up at Pitlochry you could get a train or bus up to Aviemore, replenish supplies and hike ou...
