Re: Father and son

Had to smile at this: "We sought to persuade ourselves that it was not much further to go and made frequent map consultation stops to verify that proposition." I think most of the walking fraternity have been here at one time or another!!! Yes - a small-scale map is best for that purpose!

Re: Father and son

Good to see that you enjoyed your walk ….walks that we all enjoyed in the days before any of the organised walking routes came about. The 'organised walks' were there for walking south of the border and beyond long before, I think, the first of these in Scotland along the WHW..... early seventies? ...

Father and son (3 of 3)

Continued from https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=90629&p=401888#p401888. We had decided not to stop at the Ruigh Aitechain bothy but to cross the Garbhlach burn before camping, so on we walked in the pleasant late afternoon sun. $matches[2] The Estate have created som...

Father and son (2 of 3)

Continued from https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=90628&p=401887#p401887. Breakfast consisted of tasty Trek 'n' Eat fruit muesli (8.5 out of 10) but what hit the spot was brew-in-bag Guatemalan coffee from The Coffeebrewer, given by Son to Dad on Father's Day (10/10), ...

Father and son (1 of 3)

My son (aged 16) and I (a bit old) both needed to get fitter, in his case because he had spent many weeks at a desk revising for and sitting public exams. He needed to get out and about and he wanted to try wild camping. I wanted to witness and compare the acclaimed beauty of Glens Tilt and Feshie r...

Re: Scottish National Trail through the Cairngorms

Hello, I was up Glen Feshie on my bike yesterday....lots of folks coming and going.... for the Garblach burn go for the upstream path marked on the OS maps for an easier crossing...the new path close to the confluence with the Feshie doesn't seem to be marked on any of the maps. For the Geldie it i...

Thanks for this. The forecast is not too bad and the walk looks irresistible, so we'll go ahead.

Scottish National Trail through the Cairngorms

Dad and son are planning to hike for three days from Blair Atholl to Kingussie next weekend (22 June). Can a helpful person say how much water is in the burns right now? In particular, will we have any problems crossing the Geldie burn or the Allt Coire Garbhlach? We are taking our swimming things, ...

Family with a Dog

Preparations Is walking the Rob Roy Way a suitable family summer holiday trip, or should it be left to grown-ups? We were a family of four, including son H aged 13 and daughter N aged 11. Four humans, that is, plus an energetic labradoodle, aged 5 and by far the fittest member of the group. Our grea...
