Re: WH Summer Meet Skye 16-18 August 2013

I'll probably be working the Saturday evening but i can try and tag a long for the Sunday so if anyone fancies some scrambling or knife like sections of the ridge, even the Inn Pinn, then let me know. Inn Pinn, Banachdich, Ghreadaidh and Mhadaidh are all possible in a day if the weather is good. Unl...

Re: Ben Wyvis- My Compleat Story.

I don't often log in here anymore, but this report was worthy of a comment. A great journey as can be seen from these pictures and words, and one I was glad to be part of. Even if it was right at the near end, on one of the most miserable (read gnarly) days you could ever hope to do the Pinn. I'm gl...

FOR SALE : Rab Softshell Trousers and Regatta Jacket

Size: Medium (32in Leg, 32in Waist) Good pair of trousers but they are too big for me and are way to baggy. Had them since last September and they have been used a handful of times but are still as new. Seems to be going for £60 new so I'll put them on here for £30 inc P&P. Regatta Jacket is a S...

Re: Rab Neutrino or Microlight for Scottish winter??

Stay away from them both. Down insulation is just about useless when it gets wet and no matter how hard you try not to, you will be getting wet in Scottish winter conditions ! Go with something like the Rab Generator Alpine which uses Primaloft insulation which is synthetic and keeps its warmth when...

Re: Pro Shell vs. Active Shell

eVent takes a lot of looking after, which can be a pain constantly reproofing it. I'd go with active shell seen as its stretchy fabric, which is handy for scrambling (and general mobility) and unless your scraping up thin chimneys and hugging rock then it'll most likely last as long as the pro shell...

Re: Midge conditions - Argyll, Trossachs and W. Highlands?

I went to put my gaiters on in the Blaven car park at 8am yesterday morning and go absolutely ravaged in the space of 60 seconds. They're still about !

Re: Training for hillwalking and other outdoor sports

Plenty running, some weight training, hill walking and some climbing seems to keep me fairly fit. Although there is always room for improvement. You just need to look at the best Alpinist's around the world, they all train like Olympians and then spend the rest of the time climbing and working. Make...

Re: Rucksack (packing/weight/items etc)

Like I said, it all about finding an energy gel that you can take and that is fairly tasty ! I used to like eating oatcakes but they always ended up breaking and getting everywhere in my pockets or pack. I found that the SiS Isotonic Gel's were good, and they don't require water for them to actually...

Re: How Windy Is Too Windy?

In the Cairngorms and those hills, you shouldn't have too much of a problem with strong winds. There's not much you can fall off of or get blown off. I'd go with Wednesday and Thursday just for the fact you don't need to worry about getting blown over. 50mph winds aren't particularly nice high up an...

Re: Rucksack (packing/weight/items etc)

Doesn't seem like you overly extravagant with the stuff you have, mainly just basics. Just about how much your willing to strip out and how much you can suffer I suppose. Paying close attention to the weather can be handy in the day's before and on the day of the walk. This can mean the difference b...

Re: A fond farewell in the Devil's Kitchen

Cwm Idwal is a truly amazing place. Spent a day down there in May during an Alpine preparation course with PyB in cracking weather and it was perhaps one of the best places i've seen anywhere. We started on the same route as you but went up a long grassy gully and came out just below the Cniefion Ar...

Re: Only a wee bit of Tinto

Cracking wee hill isn't it ? I see it every day on the horizon, always good to get a good view of the hills in the morning.

Haven't been up it since January, need to get on it before I go to college. Got plans to do it along with Culter Fell and Broad Law in the same day !
