Re: wild camping in Norway
I walked through Dovrefjell with my tent over 8 days and wild camped and took all my food with me. There are a good few 'huts' that can be used but I never used or went into them.

Re: Dog walking tracker
I attach a bell to my dogs collar. It alerts wildlife and should she slip her lead or something happen then at least for some distance I can hear her. I do let her off but it does depend on where I am. Wildlife, steep drops, people, many things. I also use a waistbelt to leave hands free. I have an ...

Re: Linn of Dee car park
I have never seen the car park full. I too, pay on leaving,. There are portaloo toilets. The NTS built an eco friendly compost toilet facility a while back however due to visitors not following instructions for use, it was forever being rendered unusable and thus eventually after several attempts to...

Re: Highlands in may - clothes? Weight weight weight?
When doing the CWT, I took spare underwear and a couple of spare pairs of socks. I had base layers for sleeping in which would double as extra layers should they be required . When walking , I wore a base layer, (merino wool) a fleece and a waterproof jacket ( paramo ). That was it but this time I a...

Re: Advice for an Australian to walk in Scotland
The Skye Trail perhaps? I would check though on availability of accomodation as it can get pretty busy. May is generally a good time but never guaranteed

Re: Sleeping bag advice please
Can I add my tuppence worth and suggest you consider the mat you will use. They are advertised (or most of them are) with an R value to give an idea of how protective they are in retaining/providing insulation. Should help with staying warm.

Re: Easily accessible hiking tours
Not sure how long you have but staying around Kinlochleven would give you access to the Mamores and a fine selection of Munros. You are then not too far from Fort William and options to go elsewhere dependent on your time here? I am sure there will be plenty other good suggestions tho

Re: Walks with a Dog on Skye
A fairly long walk in and out to Loch Coruisk from Sligachan and going up Sgurr na Stri but it is a good day out. Not tough on dog paws either. It's not a big massive climb but the views to the Cuillin are stupendous as are out to sea over to Elgol. There are sheep grazing on the long path in but ar...

Re: Walking in Scotland in June 2019 - first time
Hi there , There is'The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 in Scotland. It's better to google as it's a bit detailed. The crux of it however is that you can wander where ever you care in Scotland with some common sense exceptions so no worries around the Cairngorms. On the conditions in the mountains a...

Re: Viewranger
I have had Viewranger for a couple of years now but have always just done the pay as you go tile purchase but there definately was an option to purchase the whole of the UK. It was expensive though and I just preferred to check on here and then pay for what I needed if I didn't already have it. I no...

Re: Dogs and Munros
I would say it there are far many more you can take your dog rather than those to avoid. The Cairngorms are my favourite for dogs, no sheep to speak of either although mine have done many West ones with no problems. I usually try to read reports on here when planning that include dogs and get ideas ...

Re: So what's in your thermos?
I am partial to a hot bovril with pepper and some chilli flakes mixed before I head out and give the flask a wee gentle shake before I pour it. I do also occasionally take the coffee sachets that have the powdered milk in them. Oh, and, diluting lemon in hot water! Its like having a lemsip without t...

Re: Good water resistant clothing for hiking
I have gone through a couple of pairs of Salomon in my time and put many many miles on them. In really poor weather and torrential rain then I would think any boot will be slippy and especially if there is lichen on the rock. Salomon use a contagrip sole instead of Vibram but I don't think there is ...
