Re: Ben Klibreck wild camping
The Crask used to let campers use their gardens and in return those kindly campers would buy a pint or two in the pub, or even book for a meal in their small, cozy, informal and quite fantastic wee restaurant. They used to have set times for dinner and everybody went in to the dining room at the sam...

They also did me to cross rivers although the rivers were low I did need them. Bit of a faff changing but I wasnt in a rush!. They werent lightwei...

Re: The Living Mountain
I read the book a good while back and before she was to appear on our fiver (she should have been on the ten pound one!). It was a wee bit too poetic for me at times but that isn't meant to be critical of the book. I just skipped those parts! On the whole I really enjoyed it, was inspired by it and ...

Re: Which size of rucksack for a newbie hill climber
Try them on coz comfort is super important. I used my big pack and pulled the straps in for yonks before getting a separate day pack. I got the osprey sirrus 24 litre and it holds everything I need. I carry a 1.8 litre bladder as well. This wouldn’t include winter gear tho . I am however female and ...

Re: GPS Units
I downloaded the routes with Viewranger on Walkhighlands here for the CWT (Ullapool to Cape) to my phone and although I altered my route up, I followed most of it with the app. I carried a charger and kept my phone on airplane mode to help with battery and it did me well although the battery charger...

Having to wear glasses
So after managing with cheap reading glasses for ages, my eyesight was tested again and found to be deteriorating where a prescription is now necessary which is a pain in the purse. I have already lost countless pairs of the cheapo ones and as I wear them on my head they eventually stretch and end u...

Re: Are there any hills not suitable for dogs??
My dogs come with me to many of the Munro's but I wouldn't take them on all due to obvious concerns. I usually read up on the walkhighland reports that have been done by dog owners and see what they say. I have taken mine on all of the Cairngorm ones but I have more than just a few Munros to go and ...

Re: Power Monkey iPhone solar charger
Can I also suggest the Anker brand of chargers. They are reliable, have really good reviews and I have had one now for a few years and it still does what is should. In have a couple now and and use them dependent on how long I am out. I really wouldn't bother with solar.

Re: Lead and safety suggestions for 3 dogs?
Oh you asked me about the rucksack tipping if its uneven and I got a bit well , distracted!!!! The short answer is yes when I first tried it. That was me not packing it properly and I it would quickly slide to one side. Easily adjusted and after realising this I became better skilled at making sure ...

Re: Lead and safety suggestions for 3 dogs?
I had to come back on to say I am really really pleased you didn't leave the site after that couple of very ignorant and negative comments. Treat them with the contempt they deserve. I saw a person with bonnie pictures of their dogs who has had probably struggled coping with the death of a dear pet ...

Re: Strategy For Using WalkHighlands GPX files with OS Maps
I use Viewranger and can get a good 9 hours out of it with my iphone. I carry an anker battery which will/does/has charged my phone fully from empty at least 3 times. I use the phone to take pics and videos as well so its works really well for me. Yes I have a map and a compass, and I know how to us...
