Re: Summit Camping on Sgurr na Stri - Views to Die For

Awesome - great pictures.

But no matter what camera you have, or lens or whatever, you can't capture it. You just have to walk up there to appreciate it.

Re: Wild camping tent...

The Helium looks pretty great - the specs are solid - but pricewise I can find a Banshee 200 for £90 whereas the cheapest Helium 200 I can find is over £200. Then the Banshee price has gone down a lot - I think I got mine about 5 years ago. In general I think Vango is really good on the the quality...

Re: Wild camping tent...

I found the Banshee 200 irritatingly low - i couldn't sit up in it, yet I could in the Helium 200 which has a very similar design as far as I can remember. And it was a fair bit lighter and packed up smaller. A much better tent and only marginally more expensive.

Re: Sgurr na Stri

I don't remember any running water on my way up there one August.... but what a place, one of my most memorable walks ever. I scrambled up directly from the coastal path. https://d3teiib5p3f439.cloudfront.net/attachments/57254 I reckon it's worth carrying the water up there. Unless you get killed by...

Re: Nithsdale Trio: Kirkand, Cairnkinna and Cairn Hills

They sound perfect for the hills! Not suited to me now, but maybe one day.

I have a Boston Terrier and she chases - birds, mainly. You can imagine how unsuccessful that is!

Re: Nithsdale Trio: Kirkand, Cairnkinna and Cairn Hills

Nice photos.

Is that a border terrier? I've heard they're good for long walks but aren't too keen on other dogs!

Re: Rannoch Station to Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe - Day 1

A great report, and one which reminds me of a pleasant afternoon I once spent in the Climbers' Bar. It's obviously a life-saver for those pour souls trudging along the WHW on back-to-back days of solid, driving rain. I'll never forget those backpackers - totally soaked to the skin, with their clothe...

Re: A long tough outing in Orchy

Great report! Reading that not only made me realise how pathetic we were for bottling out of the second hill despite having planned to do it and not having had any problems doing the first one.........but I now suspect we didn't even get to the summit of the first one and only got as far as the Engl...

Re: Wild Camping - Top Tips Please

I've never really done it - always been too put off by the inevitable extra kilos you must have to carry because of water, food, stove, gas, pan etc.... Interesting to see the suggestions.

Re: Slovenia's highest in one day? More than I can chew.

From reading his report I think (can you confirm johnjoe?) he choose a route from the north-east. The route I did is described as the 'northern approach' - starting at the top of the Vrata valley and going via the Tominskova route. For the decent I retraced my steps about half way then split off to...

Bloody green socks on Kinder Scout

Now I know it can take a while to get round to doing walk reports, but this time I'm going back nearly 30 years to write about one of my most memorable days out on the hills. I was 8 years old and my parents had agreed to let me go camping in Derbyshire with my 18 year old cousin who was studying at...

Re: Triglav, Slovenia

Yes it's just like the Dolomites, reminded me of them a lot. I was surprised to find all that snow, although it rained all day in the valley the day before so it shouldn't have come as a shock to find fresh snow 2000m further up! As far as other routes go, I did one other via ferrata (up Mala Mojstr...
