Re: Paps of Jura Monday 6th June

If you go on a Wednesday you get a lot longer for the round. 7am ferry to Port Askaig from Kennacraig and then a quick hop over to Jura by 9.30am. Last ferry back to Port Askaig from Jura at 18.40 leaves you time for a pint or two before the last ferry back to Kennacraig :) You can get the bike up t...

Re: Two wee hills, two bothies and a perfect beach

With regard to the rock climbing in that area I`ve always been intrigued by the west face of Creag Riabhach.I think Mo Anthoine put up a few biggish routes on the crag in the 1970s but there is very little info on them.Maybe best left for other folk to find out for themselves :)

Re: Final sprint to the finishing line.

So my question is- is it normal, now that the end is in sight, to truly obsess about finishing???? As I got nearer the end I slowed right down and with six to go I stopped doing them for a few years. It`s a bit difficult to put a finger on it but looking back I reckon that instead of going where i ...

Re: Trail Shoes Review

The only time I wear winter boots is if it looks like crampons will be needed.Other than that the majority of my hills are done in trail shoes.Never twisted an ankle yet in 10 years, touch wood.Oh,I`m out every week also :)

Re: Hitchhiking Glasgow to Skye?

Obviously you should be aware of the perils of taking a lift if Caberfeidh stops and offers one How very dare you! I recently picked up a couple of Dutch guys who were shivering by the side of the road in Glen Coe, clutching a cardboard sign for Glasgow. They had spent the night in a tent in a rain...

Re: Hitchhiking Glasgow to Skye?

Quickest way is to get the train to Balloch and then walk up to the big roundabout on the A82.Head north a little to the first big layby as cars can see you in advance and pull in.

Re: Lone Bothy, Loch Stack, Sutherland

It has been locked ever since John Ridgeway started using it for his outdoor courses probably 30 odd years ago or thereabouts.Don`t know if they still use it or whether it has reverted to the estate. A few fishing huts over in Strath Dionard were open in winter a few years back and would provide she...

Re: WH Gear Test - Baselayers

If you are ever in any of the hotter parts of the US then try looking in the bigger tool store chains as all the outdoor workies wear them over there.I got 4 wicking tshirts for $25 and they are every bit as good if not better than the Berghaus one I bought there for £25 :)
