Re: They called, I went.

Thanks, everyone, for all the great comments. It's been especially nice to hear from people I've met along the way, but haven't seen for a while!

Lochinver

Lots of walking, lots of decent weather, plenty views. Stayed at the same place as at Easter, in Baddidarach, with its amazing shower, lush spa Jacuzzi bath, and a killer view across the loch to Canisp, Suilven, and Stac Pollaidh. I was fully in the holiday, completely undistracted by thoughts of wo...

Re: Lost: rucksack rain cover, Beinn Leoid

North-ish, I think. Last sighted out of the corner of my eye, flapping around to the left of me. So if you're in the seas off Durness, or maybe even on the Faroe Islands, keep your eyes peeled.

Lost: rucksack rain cover, Beinn Leoid

Blew right off, even though it was attached! Somewhere between the summit of Beinn Leoid, and the top of the stalkers path at the Drochaid Beinn Leoid. Bright green, Osprey branding. I'm not really fussed about getting it back, just feel bad about not leaving no trace, and hope that if someone finds...

Re: Walk Report Winners - October

Thanks, webtogs!

Also adding my congratulations to jmcsporran -- in addition to his Ben A'an accomplishment (and writeup), his "The Fiddler's Aurora" is another cracking report that's worth having a look at, if you haven't already.

Ample time

It wasn’t meant to be Ample time; it was meant to be a circuit-of-Fathan Glinne Corbett-Graham combo-time. I’d really been looking forward to following BHK’s route to Beinn Stacath (C) and Creag Mhor (G), from Ballimore. The times were perfect—enough time between sunrise and sunset to get me there a...

The last Luss lingerer

I had time constraints. Not only the usual sunrise/sunset, but even earlier than that, a late afternoon meeting. Ugh. Such is my lot for the next five weeks, as I help moderate an online copywriting course. Double ugh. So it had to be a quickie, and close to home. My only remaining Luss Graham was B...

The lacking Lowthers

Dear me, there’s just not a whole lot to say about this. The weather ended up being pants; much worse than the forecast had indicated. We left the start point around 9am, after discovering that a fairly convenient meeting point (with plenty of free parking) for parts South is around the area of Scot...

Re: The Fiddler's Aurora

You make your luck indeed, well done. Some phenomenal photos there. I've yet to see the Northern Lights, and it ain't for lack of trying. Not at all envious.

Re: Backing up WRs

I'm interested in this as well. I usually write my reports first in Word, so I know that I'll always have a backup copy of the text, but I've been trying to figure out whether there's an easy way to get them all -- including the photos -- into a hard copy version.

Re: They called, I went.

OK, so there might not be any crying in hillwalking, but none of my rules say I'm not allowed to get a bit emotional whilst reading so many nice comments. Thanks to everyone for all the good wishes, and nice nice compliments. I'm particularly pleased, Mal (  ), with being associated wit...

First (proper) snow on the Aonachs

After a yummy celebratory dinner at the Claichaig that ended—for me—with a compleatly (see what I did there?) decadent “Boozy Hot Chocolate,” we retired to our room the Glencoe SYH. Some got more sleep than others. We set off from the already busy car park at the end of Glen Nevis ~8:00am. Once past...

They called, I went.

There are already thousands of Munroists, and will no doubt be thousands more. There are certainly many common underlying threads, and both past and present cohorts in this endeavour will nod knowingly when contemplating all that’s involved: submitting to Mother Nature’s temperament, whether the wea...

Settlin' some (but not all) scores in Ardgour

Back in March, I spent several thoroughly unproductive and highly frustrating days in Strontian. My confidence had taken a severe knock, leaving me incapable of getting any higher than ~600m (approx snow level). I had had, in fact, a bit of a panic attack on Garbh Bheinn at 560m after scrambling up ...
