Beinn Chabhair

Fantastic day and needed to hide from the world for a day so took to the hills for the first time in 5 months, as my name suggests the white stuff is not for me. I tried this the last time I was out in November and ended up in a hole waist deep in mud and gave up just before the Lochan. The drive to...

Re: West highland way - advice please

Hi JeCook, I walked the WHW in September 2008, midges were not a problem, it **** of rain the whole of the first day [Milngavie to Balmaha] which as you can imagine was torture. Rest of the week was alright weather wise. We done it in 6 days, reason being why spoil a nice walk with tight timescales ...

I'm a ex health and safety manager so pretty sure about my limitations and aware or my at...

Re: Less Challenging

Dont mind cold or snow but not got experience to do anything in bad weather, :? was thinking about end of Feb start of March. I know we still get snow then but thought we'd have seen the worst off by then. My friend will not be keen to do early morning starts so would need longer days as well, I pre...

Re: Less Challenging

Have you been out in winter yet? :) Went out around the end of November but gave up due to going into a hole and getting soaked, windchill was a problem so thought it better to call it a day and try again. As my name suggests I'm not keen on the extreme stuff. Will wait till conditions are better b...

Less Challenging

Right guys, I'm not about to ask your advice about hills that novices can do just now as I've already seen loads of advice on other posts and to be honest reading between the lines I can tell some of the experienced guys want to say DONT DO IT, ITS NOT EASY. What I want advice on is some less challe...

Re: Gave Up!!

Encountered the really soft ground along the side of the burn, it was wet but boots were fine and feet still dry, then I stepped into what I thought was just some soft peaty soil and went right in up to my waist. As I said its the first time out for a while so I was expecting to be puffed out but it...

Re: Beinn Bhuidhe

Cheers for info Monty, I've read the pages you suggested, think I will wait till we have a few dry days [if we ever have them  ] and then just go for it, this is the last one in this area I've to do so keen to get it done before real winter sets in.

Thanks again.

Beinn Bhuidhe

Hi All, I've read some reviews that it can be very wet underfoot!! Since I'm so close and can get time off at short notice, I wondered if you guys had any advice on how many dry days make a difference to underfoot conditions or is it just a case of getting it done? I've done the others in the area s...

Re: Hello

Thanks for the warm welcome, Fair-weather softie might be doing myself a slight injustice, I do venture out in the rain but the white fluffy stuff is a no-no for me, skills and equipment are not up to that standard yet! Hoping to get another couple befoe the end of the year, all your reviews are gre...
