Derry Lodge Cycle

Hi,

Planning on cycling into Derry lodge to camp as a base. Will my hybrid bike with road tyres be up for the job? I say road tyres but I mean 1.25 inch width.

Re: Culra Bothy Munros

Thanks again everyone, had 2 great days 08th and 09th September. 3 things I learned about first wild camp. 1: Learn how to cut weight out of my bag 2: Might need to invest in better gear, definitely need a 4 season sleeping bag, slept with clothes, hat and gloves on! 3: I can do it! Real reason for ...

Re: Culra Bothy Munros

Thanks for suggestions and advice. 6 in a day might work if things are going well on day 1, suppose we will wait and see start time after pitching tent, its getting dark about 2100hrs now so might be pushing it a bit. It would be a very relaxed cycle out on day 2. Took be 25mins to pitch the tent in...

Re: Culra Bothy Munros

Thanks for advice everyone, going to stick with plan of camping. Think I will take Arthurs Eat's advice and do the 4 hills on 1st day, it will give me a fighting chance of making the 1621hrs train home on the Sunday. My luck will be seeing it depart just as I arrive and having over 3 hours to wait t...

Re: Culra Bothy Munros

Hi Simon,

Not overly fussed about camping its just a means to a end to get hills done over 2 days without crazy early drive from Glasgow. I bought the tent 4 years ago and its only been used once at a campsite. :D

Culra Bothy Munros

Hi All, Planning on camping here next weekend, never wild camped before so a bit daunting to be honest. Going to cycle in from Dalwhinnie as I will be carrying a big bag. Has anyone been recently? Are the midges horrendous? I drink loads of water normally is there lots of opportunities to get water ...

Re: Protection against out of control dogs

Original post states, "I have been walking in the hills and countryside of Scotland and England for over 40 years and have had little concern about out of control dogs.....until now" Surely anyone would think that the risk of injury is minimum if you have had little concern for over 40 yea...

Hi,

Was thinking about tomorrow, has anyone been up over last few days and can comment on river crossings. Forecast for tomorrow looks good.

Re: Haven’t Got a Scoobie

Kickinghorse, Watch trainspotting 1 and 2, go for a few pints in Glasgow before you start walking and then forget everything you learned as you will probably meet more Aussies on your walk that Glaswegians with broad accents. I met a Kiwi, Canadian, couple of German guys walking it. Only Scottish ac...

Re: andalusia hills

Thanks jmarkb, think the hills I saw are Sierra de las Nieves. But had a look at links and it seems walking on national park land is encouraged. Just was a bit worried about wandering onto someone's land and not being able to explain my intentions. :D

andalusia hills

Hi All, Just back from a break in Benalmadena and spent a couple of days trying to find my way onto the hill above the resort, Calamorro. Quick check of internet found the trails looks like they are way marked by R1 and R2 posts so once you get on the hill it looks like its pretty good walking on ha...

Re: Bog factor

Thanks for suggestions, last hill in the area is Mhanach so may just head for there with a very early start to try and avoid the chaos of the A82 on way back to Glasgow if the sun is out, hopefully I will be back before the masses decide to head back to Glasgow. Good shout about Newtonmore hills tho...

Bog factor

I had a thought today about hills I should try and get out of the way during this prolonged period of good weather, I had put off Beinn Mhanach due to crossing a few rivers but will assume that these will be almost dry beds for Saturday. Is there any others that spring to mind that I should tackle j...
