Hi, speaking as somebody fairly local to you, I do the same. Quite often do an afternoon walk on the Derwent Walk or get a lift up to the moors at Muggleswick and walk back or a quickie afternoon up to Rothbury.

Was up there end of April and experienced sunshine, snow and torrential rain. Walked as far as Meaul and not fancying the walk back through the forest backtracked to Corserine and failed miserably trying to find a way down the NE and then SW shoulder.

Came down the way you went up and recall thinking how steep it was.
Good round, I left White coomb for another day but that the beauty of the Donalds, you can do various permutations.

On the OS map two paths,east and west of the burn, shown from the bothy down to LochTreig,any advantage of one over the other. Studied a few walk reports but can't find any mention.
